Geneva library expansion ongoing
Feb. 13—GENEVA — Work is moving forward on the expansion of the Geneva Public Library.
Work on the project began last year.
Ashtabula County District Library Director Penny Neubauer said in an email there were a few challenges, such as with soil remediation.
"The ground was much wetter than we had anticipated and much of the soil had to be removed and replaced with dry, buildable soils," she said.
The issue set them back several weeks, Neubauer said.
"The under-engineering at the face of the original building set us back another several weeks," she said. "We continue to be grateful to the Arthur Louis Supply Company for donating the steel I-beam needed for the remediation."
Weather has also been a mitigating factor, she said.
"The large amount of snow we received at Thanksgiving and the few days of bitterly cold weather set us back a few days here and there also," she said.
Neubauer said the construction is moving forward despite the challenges.
"The building is now moving along quickly with shingles being installed and drywall beginning to be hung on interior walls," she said.
Library administration is still aiming for an opening celebration in August, but Neubauer said an exact date has not been chosen yet.
