Woman killed in wall collapse

Bengaluru: A 35-year-old woman was killed in a wall collapse on Monday after heavy rains lashed the city, inundating many low-lying areas and leading traffic to pile-up. The chaos triggered by the rains led to a political blamegame with the opposition BJP targeting the Congress government over the city's infrastructure and resultant civic issues. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said the woes faced by the IT capital during rains was not new, but that the government was now working to fix them with a long-term solution. The city received about 104 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, inundating many low-lying areas and leading to traffic pile-up, prompting the BJP to launch a scathing attack on the ruling Congress. Former Deputy Chief Minister and MLA of Malleswaram, CN Ashwath Narayan criticised Shivakumar, saying, 'Crores spent. Zero results.' Taking to 'X' he said: 'Last night's rains didn't expose Bengaluru's infrastructure — they exposed @DKShivakumar's track record of the last two years of doing nothing.' Karnataka BJP General Secretary and MLA of Karkala, Sunil Kumar Karkala challenged the government on 'X' to release a white paper on how much has actually been spent on Bengaluru's infrastructure in the last two years. 'Visit Silk Board once — you'll see your real contribution,' he said. Speaking at a press conference, BJP spokesperson Ashwath Narayan Gowda said that 'despite the weatherman predicting heavy rainfall almost a week ago, there were no efforts made to meet any monsoon-related exigency. The deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar is directly responsible for the rain havoc in the city'. He alleged that the deputy CM kept repeating 'Brand Bengaluru' and in the last assembly session, Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill was passed. 'From Brand Bengaluru to Greater Bengaluru, and now from Greater Bengaluru, it has now become Submerged Bengaluru. This is the achievement of the state government,' Gowda charged.

BJP releases poster against Congress govt. ahead of ‘Sadhana Samavesha'

BJP leaders released a poster against the alleged misrule in the State ahead of the State government's 'Sadhana Samavesha' scheduled to be held in Hosapete on May 20 to celebrate its two years in office. Former Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan, who addressed a press conference after releasing the posters, said the Congress government had ruined the lives of the people who had brought the party to power with a majority during the 2023 Assembly elections. Holding the State government responsible for price rise, corruption, diversion of funds meant for Dalits, Mr. Narayan alleged that nobody was happy in the State except the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues. The general public was facing the heat of price rise and inflation, he said. He questioned the rationale behind the State government holding a Sadhana Samavesha when no development had taken place in the State, with no new industries being set up. Mr. Narayan also trained his guns on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by raising the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam and his statements on India's conflict with Pakistan post the Pahalgam massacre. The BJP leader brought up a series of maternal deaths reported at the government hospital in Ballari and sought to know the progress of the probe assured by the Health Minister in the Legislature. He said the BJP will carry out an awareness campaign about the alleged all-around failure of the Congress government in the State. Former MLA and BJP's Mysuru city unit president L. Nagendra and former Mayor Shivakumar were also among the leaders present on the occasion.

Operation Sindoor: BJP to hold Tiranga Yatra in Bengaluru on May 15 to honour soldiers

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 13 (ANI): In a strong display national solidarity, BJP leader C N Ashwath Narayan announced that a Tiranga Yatra will be held in Bengaluru on May 15 following the success of 'Operation Sindoor' and urged citizens to participate in the event and express their gratitude to the armed forces. Speaking to ANI on Tuesday, Narayan said, 'We will be holding Tiranga yatra in Bengaluru on 15th May. We welcome all the citizens of Bengaluru to come forward, participate and express our gratitude to our soldiers who have done extremely well...' Narayan also shed light on the swift and powerful actions taken by the Indian armed forces during Operation Sindoor. 'After the Pahalgam attack, we wanted to express our solidarity, we wanted to give appreciation to our could destroy Pakistan air base and terror is the greatest display of India's strength that our modern warfare is on par with the most developed countries,' he said. 'We can't tolerate terrorism and the people who are backing terrorists. And so Pakistan completely surrendered and came forward urging not to escalate 'Operation Sindoor',' he added further. The campaign will be carried out by BJP across the country from May 13 to May 23, as per sources. Senior BJP leaders, including Sambit Patra, BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde, and Tarun Chugh, will coordinate the Tiranga Yatra. Prominent Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states, and senior party leaders will lead the processions in different parts of the country, according to sources. The campaign will also involve ex-servicemen, social workers, and prominent social figures who will lead the yatra. During the campaign, the party will reach out to citizens across the nation to raise awareness about Operation Sindoor and its significance for India's security and sovereignty. As part of this campaign, the BJP will organise press conferences throughout the country to highlight the success of Operation Sindoor. The party will also leverage social media influencers to amplify the message and reach a wider audience, source told ANI. Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 to strike multiple terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in retaliation for a deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22 in which 26 tourists were killed. Centre's caste census will clear confusion over Karnataka data, says BJP

The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has described the decision of the Centre to conduct a caste census along with the general census as 'historic'. The BJP is of the opinion that the Centre's caste census would go a long way in 'ending the confusion' over the findings of the caste census taken up by the Congress government in Karnataka. Former Deputy CM C.N. Ashwath Narayan claimed that the Congress government in Karnataka had conducted a caste census in the guise of Socio-Economic and Educational Survey, though it did not have the authority to take up such a census. 'The proposed caste census to be taken up by the Centre, using its authority in a legal and scientific manner, will put an end to all the confusion triggered by the caste census in Karnataka,' Dr. Ashwath Narayan claimed. 'Main data' Opposition Chief Whip in the Legislative Council N. Ravikumar expressed concern that findings of the caste census in Karnataka had been disputed by various communities as their population size had allegedly been under-enumerated. The Centre's proposed caste census would henceforth serve as the main data for various projects and schemes to be taken up in future, he said. Taking to X, Union Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy said, 'This is a major decision that will provide official, scientific and transparent data on castes. I am of the firm view that it will be very unlike the politically-motivated State-wise surveys.'
