Pranati bags vault bronze at Asian Gymnastics

Jecheon (South Korea), Jun 14 (UNI) India's Pranati Nayak scripted history once again by clinching the bronze medal in the women's vault at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships 2025 here on Saturday, further cementing her legacy as the most decorated Indian gymnast in the continental meet's history. The 30-year-old Olympian, competing at the Jecheon Gymnasium, logged a combined score of 13.466 to place third behind China's Zhang Yihan and Vietnam's Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu. Nayak, who had qualified for the final after placing fourth in the preliminary round with a 13.083, began strongly in the medal round with a 13.666 on her first vault. However, a slightly underwhelming second attempt of 12.866 saw her settle for bronze. This marks Nayak's third Asian Championship bronze in the women's vault, adding to her previous podium finishes in Ulaanbaatar (2019) and Doha (2022). By doing so, she has surpassed Dipa Karmakar in terms of overall medals won at the continental level. Karmakar had won bronze in Hiroshima 2015 and created history with a gold at Tashkent 2024, becoming the only Indian to be crowned Asian champion in any apparatus. Earlier this year, Nayak also bagged a bronze at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup in Antalya, reinforcing her consistency on the international stage. India's second finalist in Jecheon, Protistha Samanta, narrowly missed out on a podium finish, placing fourth with a score of 13.016. The former national champion had just edged into the final, qualifying eighth with 12.916. UNI BDN GNK
