Kuberaa producer claims Prime Video threatened to cut ₹10 crore from deal if film isn't released on time

For long, there has been chatter about producers and distributors feeling begrudged about how OTT platforms have also become a major player in deciding film release dates. It looks like this is true because producer Suniel Narang of Asian Cinemas, in an interview with Gulte, claimed that Prime Video threatened to cut ₹10 crore from their deal when it comes to Sekhar Kammula's Kuberaa. (Also Read: Dhanush's short hair and moustache look from Tere Ishk Mein set has fans going: 'Is that you Hardik Pandya?') When asked about how an OTT window of 4 weeks has become unavoidable, even for films that are faring well in theatres, Suniel said, 'Yes, Telugu films come on OTT platforms in 28 days, sometimes we drag it to 30 days. They have overtaken everything, and it all goes according to their will. I requested them (Prime Video) to give me a few weeks' time and a July date because there might be a delay in post-production. They said they'll cut ₹10 crore if I don't release on 20 June as planned.' He also claimed that the film industry is 'finished' when it comes to certain things, like relying on Qube Cinema for projection, BookMyShow for ticketing and OTT platforms for post-theatrical revenue. 'And yet people say artists' remuneration should be reduced. Why should we do that? India has a population of 145 crore, only 50 of them are superstars. They are gods, in my opinion. The issue lies with everything else but them. These other entities are happy irrespective of films being a hit or a flop,' said the producer. Kuberaa is directed by Sekhar Kammula and produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Rammohan Rao under Amigos Creations. The cast includes Dhanush, Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and Dalip Tahil. The film's OTT rights have been sold to Amazon Prime Video, and it will be released in theatres on 20 June. It was supposed to be released in April but was delayed.

War 2: Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR Film Bags Rs 100 Cr Deal In South Before Release?

Last Updated: Slated to hit cinemas on August 14, 2025, the YRF production also stars Kiara Advani and will be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages. Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's much-anticipated action thriller War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is already creating waves months before its release. Slated to hit cinemas on August 14, 2025, the YRF production also stars Kiara Advani and will be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages. The buzz around War 2 escalated after the teaser dropped, particularly in the Telugu trade circuit. According to a Pinkvilla report, the film has received multiple aggressive Non-Refundable Advance (NRA) bids from major distribution players, signaling massive pre-release confidence in the film's potential. A source revealed, 'The bids for War 2 are in the range of Rs 90 crore to Rs 110 crore, making it a film in demand. Asian Cinemas is leading with a staggering Rs 100 crore bid for the Telugu rights of the Hindi and Telugu dubbed versions." Other prominent players like Sithara Entertainment have also entered the race, reportedly offering close to Rs 80 crore. If locked, these deals would set a new record for dubbed Hindi films in Telugu states, surpassing even KGF 2, which earned Rs 80 crore from the region. The unprecedented demand isn't limited to Andhra and Telangana. Distributors from Karnataka, including industry giants like KVN Productions and Hombale Films, are also showing strong interest. The pan-India appeal stems from the film's powerhouse pairing of Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan. Jr NTR's popularity in the South, amplified by the recent success of Devara, is expected to fuel ticket sales, especially as War 2 marks his Hindi debut. Meanwhile, Hrithik's established fandom in the Southern belt from hits like Krrish and Dhoom 2 adds to the film's promise. YRF may depart from its self-distribution model in the South if the Telugu deal is finalised, while still handling Hindi belt and international distribution internally. The buzz around War 2 hints at a massive opening, even before its release. First Published: May 24, 2025, 00:26 IST

People don't come to see me; they come for strong stories: Priyadarshi

Riding high on the success of Court, actor Priyadarshi is now gearing up for the release of his next lead venture, Sarangapani Jatakam. Directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti and backed by Sridevi Movies' Sivalenka Krishna Prasad, the film is set to hit theatres on April 25. In a candid media interaction, Priyadarshi opened up about the film, his evolution as an actor, and his views on content-driven cinema. Speaking about Sarangapani Jatakam, he shared that the story came to him last year and was initially set for a year-end release, but strategic decisions led to its April launch. He expressed excitement, saying, 'I'm happy to follow up Court with this film. There's no pressure, just confidence.' While the movie's plot revolves around horoscopes, Priyadarshi confessed he believes in them only 'to some extent.' Reflecting on the theme, he said, 'We're not asking people to believe or disbelieve in astrology. We're simply exploring what happens when beliefs are forced upon others.' He noted that Sarangapani Jatakam, like his earlier films Mallesham, Balagam, and Court, features a relatable protagonist. 'I prefer emotional stories rooted in real lives. These characters connect with the audience on a deeper level,' he explained. Interestingly, the film marks a departure in terms of dialect too. 'I usually speak in the Telangana dialect, but here, I've adopted the Andhra accent under Indraganti sir's guidance. It gave the character a new rhythm,' he revealed. He emphasized that today's audience values content above all. 'People don't come to see me—they come for strong stories. Films work only when they're rooted in meaning,' he said. And when a film flops? 'I definitely introspect and learn from it,' he admitted. Despite emerging as a content-driven actor, he's open to the idea of commercial cinema. 'If a director like Srikanth Odela calls me, I'll pick up a sword! I'd love to explore all kinds of roles.' He also expressed gratitude toward producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad and his dream-come-true moment of working with Indraganti. The actor revealed upcoming projects including Premante under Asian Cinemas and Mitramandali under Geetha Arts. With Sarangapani Jatakam releasing soon, he concluded, 'We're planning premieres and early shows. If people like what they see, I'm sure they'll show up in theatres. Our film will leave you laughing and thinking.'
