Waterski ace Aaliyah set to make waves at Asian Championships
KUALA LUMPUR: Fresh from winning three gold medals at this year's University World Championships in New Zealand, waterskiing ace Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah will lead a team of five athletes to the Asian Waterski & Wakesports Championships, which start on Thursday in Bangkok.
Joining Aaliyah are Syahir Nasir in the men's slalom; Aiden Yoong Hanifah and Adam Yoong Hanifah in slalom, tricks and jump; and Aydan Noah Saisi in the Under-14 wakeboard event.
"Aaliyah is the favourite in slalom, tricks and jump as well as in the overall category," said the Malaysian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (MWWF) in a statement on Wednesday.
Three MWWF officials have been appointed as technical officials — Phillipa Yoong as judge, Nozie Sulaiman as scorer and Danny Choo as chief driver. — BERNAMA
