Footage shows man being Tasered 'after punching police officer in the head' in Croydon
Footage posted to social media has shown the moment a man was Tasered after punching a Metropolitan police officer in the head. The video shows the suspect Asif Ahmadziy, 27, edging closer to the two officers he was in a stand-off with before they Tasered him to the ground on Station Road in Croydon, south London, on Wednesday evening. As he falls, another officer, who appears to be in pain, can be seen being taken to a police van by a colleague. Another clip shows the injured cop sitting in the vehicle with blood streaming down his face as he told his team: 'I got punched in the face, directly, right there.' Police were originally called to the area after being made aware of suspicious behaving relating to the man at 5.56pm on May 7. Ahmadziy is alleged to have physically assaulted one of the officers as they tried to speak to him, causing serious injuries. They decided to Taser him in order to prevent him from causing any more harm. Ahmadziy, from Birmingham, was then arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and was charged the same evening. He attended Croydon Magistrates' Court on May 9 and will appear in court again on May 13. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: 'At 5.56pm on Wednesday, May 7, officers were made aware of suspicious behaviour relating to a man in Station Road, West Croydon. 'During an exchange with the man, one of the officers was physically assaulted, causing serious injuries, which were not deemed to be life-threatening or life-changing. 'The man was Tasered to prevent him causing further harm and arrested on suspicion of GBH at the scene. 'Asif Ahmadziy, 27 (27.10.97), of South Road, Birmingham was charged with GBH that evening. 'He attended Croydon Magistrates' Court on Friday, May 9 and will next appear there on Tuesday, 13 May.'
