Sarikei cops nab friends for drug trafficking after RM9,000 meth found on living room table
This combination of photos shows the suspects and seized drugs. – Police photo SARIKEI (May 2): The Sarikei Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department arrested a man and a woman on Tuesday night in connection with drug trafficking activities. Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said they were apprehended during a raid on a house at 9.30pm. 'Upon further inspection, police discovered evidence suspected to be syabu (methamphetamine) with a gross weight of 82.20 grammes and an estimated value of RM9,042 on the living room table of the house,' he said in a statement. He said both suspects are believed to have been involved in online distribution of syabu since early 2024 in Sarikei, Meradong, Tanjung Manis, and Belawai. The friends have been remanded for seven days at the Sarikei police station lockup under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. 'This case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. 'If convicted, both suspects could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane,' said Aswandy. Senior citizen killed in Sarikei motorcycle-car collision, cops urge witnesses to come forward
SARIKEI, April 29 — A senior citizen was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at KM431 of the Betong-Sarikei-Meradong Road, near SK Sungai Paoh here yesterday. Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis identified the deceased as 61-year-old Mugit Andin. 'The accident is believed to have occurred when the motorcycle ridden by the victim emerged from the road divider in front of SK Sungai Paoh on the right lane heading towards Jakar, where he was struck by a car driven by a woman travelling from Sesang to Sibu,' he said in a press statement. Aswandy said following the collision, the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and a broken left leg. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.26am by a medical team from Sarikei Hospital. 'The car driver, however, was uninjured.' He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Aswandy also urged witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Ahmad Mustaqim Idris at 010-4427240 or the nearest police station.
