A Look Into Angelina Jolie's New Chapter as She Returns to Filmmaking, Fashion and Global Influence
On June 4, Angelina Jolie will celebrate her milestone 50th birthday. In her first 49 years, Jolie has accomplished more than most can dream: She's raised six children — Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 19, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, who she shares with ex Brad Pitt — earned countless awards and become revered worldwide for her humanitarian work. She's not done yet, however — here is a glimpse into everything the Maria star has had going on behind the scenes. After a 14-year absence from the Cannes Film Festival, Angelina made her triumphant return in 2025 to serve as the 'Godmother' tapped to present the prestigious Trophée Chopard to two rising stars on May 16. Angelina is frequently seen at Atelier Jolie, the graffiti-covered fashion retail space she opened in New York City in 2023. She enjoys hosting panel discussions at the collaborative and cultural center–meets–design workshop. In late 2024, Angelina was spotted filming her next movie, Couture, in Paris. The project, which Variety reported is about 'three women whose lives will collide during Fashion Week,' is being shot in both French and English. On May 14, it was announced that Angelina will play a banker opposite 31-year-old White Lotus season 3 breakout star Aimee Lou Wood's hostage-taking robber in the buzzed-about film Anxious People. Also in the pipeline? Big-budget movies, including Disney sequel Maleficent 3 and Maude v Maude — costarring and coproduced by Halle Berry, 58, who's described the flick as Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets Mission: Impossible. 'I have to be [in L.A. because of] a divorce, but as soon as [the twins] are 18, I'll be able to leave,' Angelina said last year. After her youngest become adults in July 2026, she mused, 'I'll spend a lot of time in Cambodia' and 'visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.'

Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry Celebrate Trophée Chopard in Cannes
CANNES, France — The Trophée Chopard gala was full of sparkle, from not just the jewels but the star presence of Angelina Jolie. Jolie is serving as godmother to this year's honorees, Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett. In a white Tom Ford gown and a pair of Chopard diamond earrings, she took to the stage to celebrate the rising stars and acknowledge the film festival as not only a celebration of glamour, but human connection and artistic courage. 'I love international cinema. We are brought to other lands, into private moments, even on the battlefield, we connect and we empathize.' Jolie placed the spotlight on building bridges between people, and highlighted the film 'My Father's Shadow,' which will have its Cannes premiere in the Un Certain Regard section on Sunday. The drama about the 1993 Nigerian election crisis and political unrest marks the first time a Nigerian film has been in competition. The inclusion of the film is a step forward, Jolie said. 'Anything that is possible to make international cinema more accessible is necessary and welcome,' she said. Ever the activist, Jolie popped the Cannes bubble to draw attention to the current state of conflicts around the world. 'None of us are naive. We know that many artists around the world lack the freedom and security to tell their stories, and many have lost their lives,' she said, citing Fatima Hasuna, killed in Gaza; Shaden Gardood, killed in Sudan, and Victoria Amelina, killed in Ukraine. A documentary titled 'Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,' about Hasuna's life as a photojournalist in Gaza, will be screened in Cannes. Jolie went on to underscore the role of artists and cinema. 'We owe all of those risking their lives and sharing their stories and experiences a debt of gratitude, because they have helped us to learn and to evolve,' she said. Jolie was on hand to honor this year's Trophée Chopard recipients, Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett. 'You have both been acknowledged for the extraordinary versatility, authenticity and empathy that you bring to your roles and as rising talents in global cinema,' she said, and highlighted their future promise as actors. 'Thank you both for your contribution that you have already made to film and storytelling and for everything that you will go on to do creatively.' A very nervous Colomb thanked Jolie in her role of godmother of the prize. But she added a moment of levity with a little slip up. 'It's really such an honor to have you as a dog mother,' she said, before quickly correcting her error. The French actress said they had been talking about dogs before (Chopard copresident Caroline Scheufele's Cavalier King Charles spaniel Byron was in attendance at the ceremony) and apologized with a laugh that was received with wide applause from the audience. Bennett thanked Jolie for her work on and off the screen. 'Her work with humanitarian causes and ecological causes means she is someone who is and will always be on the right side of history,' he said. 'I can't say thank you enough. I'm a very lucky boy.' Members of the jury including president Juliette Binoche, Jeremy Strong, Hong Sang-soo, Alba Rohrwacher, Dieudo Hamadi, Payal Kapadia, Leïla Slimani and Carlos Reygadas, as well as Camera d'Or jury president Alice Rohrwacher and Carla Bruni, were on hand to celebrate. Berry said she is enjoying the festival so far, despite the hectic schedule. 'I'm having the time of my life,' she said. She was wearing a black Jacquemus dress — her second of the festival by the designer — and a stunning Chopard snake necklace. Festival president Iris Knobloch thanked longtime Cannes partner Chopard and Scheufele for supporting the festival. 'In a world where everything moves faster, where alliances form and fade with passing trends, our rare and precious bond is the creation of an exceptional woman, Caroline,' she said. 'Thank you so much for your unwavering loyalty, generosity and your invaluable friendship, and thank you to Chopard for continuing year after year to illuminate the timeless jewel that is the film festival.' The event, held at the Carlton beach, was unwittingly set to the thumping music of a party next door. The beat was so pervasive that Bruni, who had been slated to perform, bowed out of her closing song. Nicole Kidman Sparkles in Tom Ford Suit by Haider Ackermann and Statement Gloves at ‘Nine Perfect Strangers' Season Two Premiere
Nicole Kidman wore a look from Haider Ackermann's debut collection for Tom Ford at the season two premiere of the Hulu series 'Nine Perfect Strangers' on Thursday in Los Angeles. Working with stylist Jason Bolden, Kidman modeled a black suit look, which was introduced in March on the runway in Paris. The set featured a fitted single-breasted blazer and straight-leg trousers with a narrow silhouette. Both garments were embellished with small sequins, offering the actress a subdued sparkle. Hints of white came through in the outfit with cuffs peeking past her jacket sleeves and a pristine flower affixed to the side of her lapel. A pair of black leather gloves completed the formal ensemble, which Kidman wore sans shirt, as it was presented on the runway. She also contributed a sharpness to her ensemble with glossy black pointed-toe shoes. Ackerman debuted as the creative designer of Tom Ford with the brand's fall 2025 ready-to-wear collection. 'Ackermann went into tailoring, pumping out '80s-killer business pinstripe and silk jacquard suits accessorized with white lapel flowers, skinny neckties or polka-dot scarves, and lush morning-after robe coats. He also tuned into the flashy acid colors and pastels that were perennial Ford favorites, cutting sleek skinny women's suits and giving them his own signature narrow, pinched shoulders,' Booth Moore reviewed the collection for WWD in March. While Kidman was in California for this premiere, it won't be long before she's honored with the Kering Women in Motion award at the Cannes Film Festival, which runs this year from May 13 to 24 in France. The second season of 'Nine Perfect Strangers' will premiere on Hulu on May 21. Another class offered was called Experimental Drawing with Andrew Castrucci and before that, there was a class on intimates 'where you can learn how to create designer-inspired intimate apparel.' Another gathering with Giancarlo Cipri centered on how to silkscreen and Mimi Plange on using appliqué through felting. Jolie has also hosted a conversation with artist Ferrari Sheppard. 'The place is bustling and has a very smart vibe, I like it in there, it's amazing,' said a fan of Atelier Jolie. 'It's a cool place to hang out.' 'It definitely was a labor of love for Jolie to highlight artists. And the coffee is good, the café is fun,' the source added. Last year, Jolie told the Wall Street Journal that she will 'probably lose money, maybe even for a while' on the venue - and she's OK with it. 'If I can eventually put into practice some things that I think are improvements and I just break even, that's a huge victory,' said the Salt star. Last year, they put a call out to creators. We hope there will be others soon, as we build a global family. 'We are looking for tailors who understand quality and creativity. Atelier Jolie will curate a few up-and-coming skilled tailors who have a strong point of view on design. 'This collective's purpose is to collaborate with customers, supporting them with tools to design and create. You will also have a chance to develop your own line and sell in the shop under your name, to help launch your own new sustainable brand after leaving the residency. 'We understand because of financial reasons that you may not have been able to touch on sustainability, so we are here to support that endeavor. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Atelier Jolie (@atelierjolieofficial) 'Soon, we will be looking for artisans—with a focus on embroidery, fabric painting, fabric manipulations, etc... There will be different calls for talent submissions. Some in-house… Some for special events and salon dinners... Some are to be featured in tutorials online. All to help share your creativity. 'As you fill out the submission form below, I encourage everyone as artists to always protect your creations. You should never submit confidential designs… share what you have shared with the world already. We will see the work with respect and integrity. 'We look forward to reviewing them. Remember, if you don't hear from us this round, there will be many more rounds and other opportunities to come. 'Thank you in advance for sharing your creativity. Be bold.
