Arab Ministerial Economic Council: Proposal to establish a Council of Arab Trade Ministers
INA – BAGHDAD Minister of Trade Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi confirmed on Tuesday that the Economic and Social Council meeting at the ministerial level of the Arab Summit discussed more than 30 items to support economic and social transformation in Arab countries, including the establishment of a Council of Arab Trade Ministers. Al-Ghurairi said, during a press conference attended by the Iraqi News Agency - INA, "Today's meeting voted to approve more than 30 items to support economic and social transformation in Arab countries, including establishing Council of Arab Trade Ministers," reiterating "the Iraqi government's welcome to the guests of the Arab Summit and the Development Summit." The meeting also discussed "the issues of the blue economy, food security, and achieving Arab economic integration towards establishing a customs union and a free trade zone for Arab countries." He added, "The decisions of the Economic and Social Council meeting at the ministerial level will be presented to Arab leaders during the Arab Development Summit on May 17th."

In his opening remarks, Al-Ghurairi described the event as a pivotal moment for the Arab world, urging unified efforts to transform regional economies into productive and sustainable systems. 'Today's meeting is not merely ceremonial; it is grounded in joint action to build a constructive and productive Arab economy,' Al-Ghurairi said during the Economic and Social Council's preparatory session. He added that the upcoming summit would seek to convert political borders into 'bridges of cooperation' and stimulate a renewed assessment of development strategies across Arab nations.
