Hadley Asparagus Festival returns next month
HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – What is known as Hadley grass has already started to hit farm stands and shelves in the area with fresh asparagus.
Hadley is known as 'the asparagus capital of the world,' with many farmers producing the vegetable this spring. It has become a staple crop in Hadley due to its climate and soils and because it can be found everywhere at once, its nickname became 'Hadley grass.'
Chance for scattered showers through Saturday as western Mass. approaches record May rainfall
The locally grown asparagus arrived at Atkins Farms on April 30th on sale this week for $4.99 a bunch through April 15th. On May 3rd, Dave's Natural Garden announced that they have a bunch available in their Granby store.
The annual Asparagus Festival presented by New England Public Radio is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Hadley Town Common. The event includes live music, a farmers and makers market, a beers and spears tent featuring local beers, and all the asparagus you can eat.
