Big River Steel, Atlas Tube invest $800K in Arkansas housing program

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. — Two of Mississippi County's largest industrial employers are doubling down on their commitment to local workforce housing. Big River Steel (BRS) and Atlas Tube have announced renewed investments totaling more than $800,000 in the county's 'Work Here. Live Here.' (WHLH) housing incentive program. BRS is contributing an additional $500,000, while Atlas Tube has pledged $300,000. The funding is expected to extend the life of a program that's already helped over 150 families purchase homes in the area. 'Mow to Own' program allows man to possess vacant lot Launched in 2023, WHLH offers financial incentives for employees of participating companies to purchase homes in Mississippi County, up to $50,000 toward new home construction or $25,000 for existing homes. To date, the initiative has generated $37.4 million in housing value and construction, helping transform the county's residential landscape. BRS, the program's first private sector partner, initially invested $3 million, supporting 107 home purchases, 63% of them by first-time buyers. The average participant age was just 29. Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, followed with a $367,000 initial investment that helped fund 18 home purchases. The company's impact also skewed toward first-time buyers, who made up 67% of its participants, with an average homeowner age of 38. Memphis named finalist for All-America City Award County Judge John Alan Nelson credited the private sector for driving the program's success. 'This program works because companies like Big River Steel and Atlas Tube understand the value of investing in people,' Nelson said. 'When our workforce lives here, learns here, and grows here, the entire county benefits.' The additional funding from BRS and Atlas Tube is expected to keep the momentum going, offering more employees the chance to become homeowners and community stakeholders in Mississippi County. Atlas Tube Unveils the HSS Connections Hub(TM): Complimentary Tools and Expert Support to Help Structural Engineers Streamline HSS Connection Design

CHICAGO, IL / / April 1, 2025 / Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, today introduces its HSS Connections Hub™ featuring an innovative suite of engineering resources designed to simplify Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) connection design for structural engineers and fabricators. The Connections Hub is built to: Save time designing HSS connections. Optimize HSS connection designs for fabrication. Improve team collaboration and project sharing. Eliminate outdated and highly customized spreadsheets. The Connections Hub includes a variety of downloadable typical connection details and advanced HSS design calculators, allowing engineers to accurately design a variety of connections while reducing costs and complexity. The initial rollout includes the most common detail sheets, with many more to be added in the weeks and months to come. "By providing fabrication-friendly HSS connection designs and calculations, the Connections Hub fills a void for engineers looking to realize the benefits of HSS in their designs," said Jeff Cole, President, Atlas Tube. "We will continue growing resources in the Connections Hub, so that engineers and steel detailers have one trusted source for HSS connection designs that are easier to fabricate and reduce costs throughout the construction process." The Connections Hub calculators will be used to generate optimized designs for specific loads, minimizing inefficiencies that can create late changes on a project. Additionally, the platform provides professional-grade reports that can be submitted for project stakeholder approvals, streamlining communication between engineers, fabricators, and connection detailers. Learn more about the Connections Hub at Additionally, visitors to Atlas Tube booth 225 at the 2025 North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) held in Louisville, Ky., April 2-4, will have the opportunity to see live demonstrations and learn how these tools can immediately benefit their current HSS connection designs.
