The Sports Report: Suddenly struggling Dodgers running into issues
Howdy, I'm your host, Austin Knoblauch, filling in for Houston Mitchell. Let's get right to the news. From Jack Harris: Defensive miscues cost the Dodgers two runs on Monday. Stellar defense from the Washington Nationals prevented two, if not more. In the Dodgers' 6-4 loss at Nationals Park to open a three-game series, that proved to be the biggest difference. And, with the team having lost three of their last four games, it reinforced what is fast becoming a disconcerting early-season theme. As was the story in this past weekend's series defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies, when defensive breakdowns and baserunning blunders ended the team's 8-0 start to the season, the Dodgers continued to struggle with the fundamentals on Monday, digging an early hole from which they never fully recovered — even on a night Shohei Ohtani came up a double short of the cycle. With two on and one out in the top of the second, Mookie Betts let a hard-hit one-hopper blaze by him at shortstop, misjudging a low bounce on an error that allowed an unearned run to score. 'I missed it,' Betts said. 'Whether it hopped up or stayed down, doesn't matter.' With two outs, Miguel Rojas booted a more routine grounder at second base, resulting in yet another error and unearned run. 'Defensively today, we gave them a lot of chances for them to score some runs,' Rojas said. 'So we gotta clean that up.' The Nationals' defense, on the other hand, twice took away hits that doused potentially dangerous Dodgers rallies. For Bernhard Langer, they brought him to his knees. 'Those were the hardest times in my life, in my golfing life, I should say,' said Langer, 67, who this week will play in his 41st and final Masters. 'I've had the yips on four different occasions. It seems like every seven years for some reason, just not lately, thank goodness.' The depths for him came in 1989 at the Buick Invitational in Detroit, after his first of two Masters victories, when he missed the cut despite hitting 17 greens in regulation on Thursday and 16 on Friday. His putting was so shaky, though, that he was a forehead-slapping 11 over par. 'I went back to my hotel and literally got on my knees,' he said. 'I was already a believer at the time, and said a prayer like, 'God, if you want me done with this game, I'm ready to give it up. Just show me what you want me to do and I'll pack it up, no more golf.' A friend was praying with him and said, 'I don't think he's done with you yet.' It was a defensive gem of his own. Right before the buzzer. For the win and the national title. The Gators and Clayton somehow overcame Houston's lock-down intensity Monday night to will out a 65-63 victory in an NCAA title-game thriller decided when the Florida senior's own defense stopped the Cougars from even taking a winning shot at the buzzer. Clayton finished with 11 points, all in the second half, but what he'll be remembered for most was getting Houston's Emanuel Sharp to stop in the middle of his motion as he tried to go up for a three-pointer in the final seconds. Clayton ran at him, Sharp dropped the ball and, unable to pick it up lest he get called for traveling, watched it bounce. Alex Condon dived on the ball, then flipped it to Clayton, who ran to the opposite free-throw line with the buzzer sounding and tugged his jersey out of his shorts. Next, the court was awash in Gator chomps and orange and blue confetti. 'Our motto is, we all can go,' Clayton said. 'We've got a team full of guys that can go. It ain't just about me. My team held me down until I was able to put the ball in the basket. Shout out to them boys.' Beniers scored his 19th goal of the season when he went hard to the net to put home a rebound into an open net to tie it at 18:35. Montour scored with 30.6 seconds left in the period, beating Darcy Kuemper on the goaltender's glove side to set a career-high with 17 goals. Joey Daccord made 28 saves for Seattle. The Sports Report: Lakers prove they can beat NBA's elite
Howdy, I'm your host, Austin Knoblauch, filling in for Houston Mitchell. Let's get right to the news. From Dan Woike: The postseason road the Lakers want to take probably will roll through Oklahoma City at some point, the unquestioned best team in the Western Conference having played its way to the top with a level of all-around excellence rarely seen. And the Lakers, heading into the final week of the regular season, have either the good fortune or the curse of having to test themselves against the team with the NBA's best record. At the worst, the games against the Thunder could expose the Lakers' weaknesses. Oklahoma City is younger and hungrier with more size at the rim, capitalizing on advantages the Lakers will struggle to overcome. But when the Lakers are at their best — and whoa, they were certainly at their best Sunday — they can prove to everyone, especially themselves, that their combination of otherworldly individual offensive talent and versatile, scrambling defense can hold down even the most talented of teams. From early red-hot shooting to full-game focus, the Lakers stamped themselves as full-fledged contenders in the West by dominating the Thunder 126-99 in an all-caps, bold-lettered statement win. 'We know it's the final stretch into the full season, so we're just trying to rack up great habits,' LeBron James said. That, plus great players, is a proven combination. Luka Doncic, who knocked the Thunder out of the postseason last season on the way to the NBA Finals, went deep into his bag of skills, spinning around defenders, firing passes over his head and stepping back and splashing over the Thunder's league-best defense. Continue reading here Lakers-Thunder box score NBA scores NBA standings From Jack Harris: On a windy, wet and dreary afternoon at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday, the Dodgers twice watched a lead slip frustratingly from their grasp. It first happened in the third inning, when a steady drizzle, slippery ball and muddy mound caused Tyler Glasnow to come unglued in a six-run implosion. It happened again in the seventh, when the Dodgers stormed back in front with five unanswered runs only to let a sloppy inning of defense cost them their first series defeat of the season. Such were the lapses that decided the Philadelphia Phillies' 8-7 win in Sunday's series rubber match; reminding a Dodgers team that won eight straight games to start the season that they're also capable of beating themselves. There's the Sunday sanctuary of SoFi Stadium — also known as Rams House — but the franchise that returned to Los Angeles in 2016 has turned its attention to creating a permanent home in Woodland Hills, where it will spend the other six days of the week. Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who built the $5-billion stadium in Inglewood, has provided The Times a detailed and exclusive first look at the next major project for his NFL team: a state-of-the-art team headquarters, surrounded by a glistening new residential and retail community intended to be the long-awaited centerpiece of the San Fernando Valley. In bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles and constructing a state-of-the-art venue — a place where the Chargers also play — Kroenke provided a proof of concept. SoFi Stadium renderings were more than pretty pictures; they came to life. Continue reading here From Sam Farmer and Gary Klein: Pete Carroll's syllabus is as lively and star-studded as his sideline. The legendary football coach, a guest professor at USC, has brought in a parade of celebrities to speak to his 'The Game is Life' class of 56 students, chosen from a field of more than 300 applicants. One week it's Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr imparting his wisdom. Then, it's author and new-age guru Deepak Chopra. Actor Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) has spoken to the class, as has Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute from 'The Office') and Olympic gold medalists Rai Benjamin and April Ross. In the auditorium in the Fertitta Hall basement, the biggest star of all is the eternally youthful, irrepressibly enthusiastic Carroll, 73, hired in January as new coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. His USC teams went 97-19 in his nine seasons with the Trojans, winning national championships in 2003 and '04 — before many of his students were born. There was no NFL team in Los Angeles at the time, and Carroll's sidelines were always a who's who of the entertainment industry. Folding towels, putting away laundry — the nature of the task didn't matter so long as it allowed the teenager to be near his father, Sal, the defensive line coach for the Carolina Panthers. One of the perks of hanging around an NFL locker room was meeting the players. Among those who took an immediate liking to the boy was DeShaun Foster, the new running back out of UCLA. 'He would come up to you as a young kid that looked up to all these NFL players, that was having all the success, and would take the time to be able to talk to you, spend time with you and was really, really genuine,' Sunseri said Saturday, more than two decades after first crossing paths with Foster during the 2002 season. 'So when it came to him and our relationship, he was somebody that I knew whenever I walked in the building I felt like I had a friendship with.' Continue reading here From Bill Plaschke: He has made 17 baskets. He has played in the equivalent of less than three full games. Seventeen Lakers have spent more time on the court. Sixteen Lakers have scored more points. He has been but a speck of lint on the Lakers' lapel, a bit of dust at the end of the Lakers' bench, a small and irrelevant bystander in the Lakers' long and arduous journey. Yet, admit it, Bronny James has been huge. The nepo baby whose arrival last summer was ripped across the NBA landscape has quietly risen above the criticism and gradually drowned out the noise. Kyren Paris also homered for the Angels, who have won six of eight after taking two of three from Cleveland in their only home series during the first three weeks of the season. The Angels play 15 of their first 18 games away from home. O'Hoppe became the first catcher in Angels history to homer in four straight games when he connected leading off the second inning. He went deep at St. Louis last Wednesday before homering in all three games against Cleveland. It was the moment they wanted all along. 'They've all been gratifying, don't get me wrong,' Auriemma said. 'But this one here, because of the way it came about and what's been involved, it's been a long time since I've been that emotional when a player has walked off the court.' Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong led the way as UConn returned to the top of women's college basketball by rolling to an 82-59 victory over defending champion South Carolina on Sunday. When the puck hit the net, it made him the top goal scorer in NHL history, breaking Kings great Wayne Gretzky's record. Ovechkin scored his 895th career goal on Sunday in the Washington Capitals' game against the New York Islanders, beating fellow Russian Ilya Sorokin on a power play with 12:34 left in the second period. He took a perfect pass from longtime teammate Tom Wilson and fired an absolute laser past Sorokin with defenseman Jakob Chychrun screening. Ovechkin had never scored on Sorokin before, making his countryman the 183rd different goaltender he has beaten. The Sports Report: UCLA gets revenge and advances to Final Four
Howdy, I'm your host, Austin Knoblauch, filling in for Houston Mitchell. Let's get right to the news. From Ben Bolch: This time, everything came together when it mattered most. Lauren Betts made sure of it, following one powerful move with another. This time, the last seconds were full of joyous anticipation. Kiki Rice made the most of them, sinking two late free throws inside Spokane Arena. This time, there was reason to celebrate the meaning of it all. Gabriela Jaquez made sure to marinate in this moment, bouncing gleefully toward half-court while her teammates formed a joyous mob. A year after Louisiana State ended UCLA's season in the NCAA women's basketball tournament, the Bruins returned the favor. Making the critical plays it needed in the final minutes, top-seeded UCLA pulled away for a 72-65 victory over the third-seeded Tigers on Sunday in a Spokane Regional final, propelling the Bruins to their first Final Four in this tournament in school history. Hello, Tampa! UCLA (34-2) will face either top-seeded USC or second-seeded Connecticut in a national semifinal on Friday at Amalie Arena. Continue reading here NCAA women's basketball bracket From Ryan Kartje: Kennedy Smith could feel her body dragging. It was late December, and she'd just returned from a month-long injury absence. She was still getting her legs back, still trying to find her footing in her first season at USC. But there was no time for that here, not with Paige Bueckers and Connecticut pushing the pace, testing every inch of the Trojans' defense. However fatigued she might have felt, no one could tell that day. The freshman had played just four games at USC to that point, but even then played an essential role in lifting the Trojans past the Huskies, all while on a minutes restriction. To Beth Burns, the architect of USC's defense, it was classic Kennedy. 'What she does, she works four times as hard as some other people on the floor because of what we're asking her to do,' Burns said. 'She takes it on and then some.' Four months later, as a rematch with No. 2 seed Connecticut awaits in the Elite Eight, Smith must shoulder more than ever in the wake of JuJu Watkins' season-ending injury. In USC's Sweet 16 win over Kansas State, she was the Trojans' catalyst on offense, scoring 11 of their first 13 points and leading the team with 19. But it's her defense that will need to make a difference Monday, as a possible head-to-head matchup with Bueckers beckons with a Final Four bid on the line. Continue reading here From Dan Woike: On this patch of land in Pacific Palisades, JJ Redick found heaven. When his family would finish dinner, as the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, he and his wife, Chelsea, and their sons, Knox and Kai, would leave the house they were renting on Earlham Street and walk toward the spot he loved so dearly. From these bluffs he could gaze at the ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains. He'd come back to Los Angeles looking for something exactly like this, the intersection of nature and community, a place where he could soak in the splendor while his young family could take root and become a part of the community's fabric. 'Everybody has, whether you believe in God or not, everybody has things that make you feel like you're closer to God, if that makes sense — where you can feel the presence of God or whatever spirit you believe in,' Redick said. The spot reminded him of his childhood and the Blue Ridge Mountains where he grew up, and vacations at Holden Beach on the shores in North Carolina. 'Being where I can see mountains and the ocean is I'm like in heaven,' he said. Continue reading here From Dylan Hernández: When their moment came to show the world what they were about, they were served a fastball over the middle of the plate. And the Dodgers whiffed. Stupid me, thinking they'd overcome their penchant for choking when they won the World Series last season. The Dodgers have accepted an invitation from President Trump to visit the White House on April 7, the franchise of Jackie Robinson bending the knee to hateful forces similar to the ones they challenged when breaking their sport's color barrier. How pathetic. How spineless. More than anything, how hypocritical. Continue reading here From Ben Bolch: Remember those sayings about college football coaches in their first few seasons? You know, how people would justify their struggles? It's still early. Give him time. He just has to get his guys in. Well, those excuses are gone. Less than a week after his first season ended, DeShaun Foster essentially said so himself. 'We're going to be able to reload,' the UCLA coach said in December when asked about holes he needed to fill on a roster that had just completed a 5-7 season. 'That's the nature of the business. You guys have seen plenty of teams go from three wins or whatever they did to conference championships, you know? Prime [Colorado coach Deion Sanders] has done the same thing — he lost a lot of guys in the portal and he was able to reload.' In other words, Foster just put himself on a loudly ticking clock. Paris — a second-round pick in 2019 — hit his first home run this year after hitting one last season in 51 at-bats. Closer Kenley Jansen gave up a leadoff double to Andrew Vaughn and a walk to Matt Thaiss to begin the bottom of the ninth. He got Miguel Vargas to pop out before inducing a double-play grounder from Brooks Baldwin. The Sports Report: Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves a true dynamic duo for Lakers
Howdy, I'm your host, Austin Knoblauch, filling in for Houston Mitchell. Let's get right to the news. From Dan Woike: If you have been studying the Lakers' offense microscopically since the team acquired Luka Doncic, if you have looked at the spacing, the movement, the efficiency and the organization rates, there's only one question you could possibly have after the Lakers' 125-109 win Monday night against the Spurs. Is it 'butt naked' or 'buck naked'? Nearly a month ago, Dorian Finney-Smith introduced the phrasing into the Lakers' lexicon after a rare practice, saying either 'butt' or 'buck' when describing the nudity level Doncic's new teammates would need to be comfortable with. No one plays near you when Doncic is on the court, Finney-Smith said, the opposing defense leaving you alone, exposed and uncontested in ways that just don't happen in the NBA. 'I'm back getting wide-open shots where I feel like I gotta rush when I really don't have to, I got plenty of time,' he said. 'The last couple of years, I ain't been playing with guys like Luka, so I've been getting hard closeouts, but now I got that time. You (???)-naked wide-open.' That was clear — just the descriptor wasn't. 'Excuse my language,' he said with a grin. 'You wide-open.' Playing for the fourth time in five days and playing, again, without key starters in Rui Hachimura and LeBron James, the Lakers' offense operated with the kind of ease that just doesn't happen in most games, the team creating the kinds of naked opportunities that would make anyone blush. Just acres and acres of dried grass. As he was about to drive by the abandoned building, Masahiro Osada pointed to the area on the other side of the two-lane road. 'My restaurant was there,' he said in Japanese. With his right index finger, Osada drew an imaginary line across his windshield. 'There was a road here,' he said. 'Roki's house was 30 or 40 meters down.' On a day that came to be known as 3.11 — March 11, 2011 — more than 80% of the homes in this remote seaside community were destroyed by a tsunami, including that house. The nine-year-old boy who lived there, Roki Sasaki, survived. His father, Kota, didn't. It was his second day of summer school at UCLA, so he didn't answer. When one of his brothers sent him a message on Snapchat, he finally relented and looked to see what was going on. Dad's in the hospital. He had a stroke. Bolting from his seat, Clark called his father. At first, Kenny Clark seemed fine, his wry sense of humor intact even from a hospital bed. 'He was joking around and sending us selfie videos,' Skyy said, 'and was like, 'They're about to discharge me' and everything, and then something crazy happened.' At the time, Skyy and his father were on the verge of a mutual homecoming. After a lifetime's worth of detours that included four high schools and three colleges, Skyy was going to play for the hometown Bruins and his family was planning to move nearby. After a long period of uncertainty, boxing is on track to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, said Monday the executive board he chairs approved including the sport in the 2028 program. The full IOC Session of about 100 members must vote on the decision later this week at a meeting in Costa Navarino, Greece, but that is typically a formality. The session, which ends Friday, also will include the election of a successor to Bach, whose 12-year tenure comes to an end in June. Ensuring boxing remains an Olympic sport was the topic Monday, however. The Sports Report: UCLA women make history on Selection Sunday
Howdy, I'm your host, Austin Knoblauch, filling in for Houston Mitchell. Let's get right to the news. From Thuc Nhi Nguyen: Gabriela Jaquez leapt out of her chair and whipped her fist through the air. Kiki Rice joined in, jumping up and down with her arms wrapped around Jaquez's shoulders, wide smiles splitting their faces as they held phones in the air to record a moment that was equal parts joyful and historic. UCLA earned its highest NCAA tournament position in school history Sunday, securing the tournament's No. 1 overall seed. Coming off their first conference tournament title since 2006, a comeback win over USC in the Big Ten tournament final, the Bruins (30-2) lead Spokane regional 1. They will host the winner of No. 16 seed UC San Diego (20-15) versus No. 16 seed Southern (20-14) in the first round at Pauley Pavilion at 7 p.m. Friday. The game will air on ESPN. If UCLA wins, it will face the winner of No. 8 Richmond (27-6) versus No. 9 Georgia Tech (22-10). 'We've focused all year long on 'earn what you want,'' UCLA coach Cori Close said. 'Bottom line is your work will speak for itself and just focus on what you're earning and being present that day and I think that's what led us to getting the seed that we have.' The Bruins have won 13 consecutive NCAA tournament games at Pauley Pavilion, including 10 straight as a top-four seed hosting first- and second-round games. The home court advantage has helped the Bruins reach the Sweet 16 six times in their last seven NCAA tournament appearances. But with a talented junior class led by center Lauren Betts and Rice, who were, respectively, the No. 1 and No. 2 prospects in their recruiting class, UCLA has grander expectations than two NCAA tournament wins. Continue reading here Men's and women's NCAA brackets From Ryan Kartje: They sat in a line of folding chairs on the Galen Center court, watching the television in front of them intently, waiting as one region after another was announced without them. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that the Trojans deserved a No. 1 seed — that box had already been checked through a 29-win regular season and Big Ten regular season title run. But as one top seed was declared, then another, then another, a different feeling crept over the group than the joy that filled the room this time last year. USC once again earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, this time in Regional Two that runs through Spokane in the Sweet 16 round. The Trojans will host No. 16 seed UNC Greensboro at Galen Center in the first round of the NCAA tournament at noon on Saturday. The game will air on Ch. 7. None of that came as a surprise to anyone on Sunday. A crowd filled with family, friends and season-ticket holders still burst into pandemonium when the Trojans heard their name called, gleefully celebrating the second time since 1986 that USC had earned a top tournament seed. The band played. The cheerleaders danced. But in the front row of the Trojans' watch party, where the starters sat, word of a second straight top seed was met with a much more muted reaction than you might expect. JuJu Watkins, the star sophomore, stared blankly ahead, offering only a slow, deliberate clap. Rayah Marshall sat stone-faced. Kiki Iriafen posed for the cameras, wearing only a thin smile. Meanwhile, their coach sat a few rows behind fuming, wondering how exactly the committee could place her team where it ultimately ended up. Continue reading here From Ben Bolch: No matter how UCLA was seeded, where it was sent or who it would face in its NCAA tournament opener, perhaps the biggest factor in its postseason fate wouldn't change. The Bruins will likely go only as far as their guards take them. That might make for a short stay in Lexington, Ky., unless they get a lot more out of this group. March is all about guard play. They are the ones who run the offense, dictate the defense, manage late leads and spark comebacks. Collectively, Dylan Andrews, Skyy Clark, Kobe Johnson, Sebastian Mack, Trent Perry and Lazar Stefanovic must significantly raise their level of play if the Bruins have any hope of making it to the tournament's second weekend. Their production could compensate for an off night by one of the team's leading scorers, forwards Tyler Bilodeau and Eric Dailey Jr., or offset limited minutes for center Aday Mara because of conditioning issues, matchup concerns or coach Mick Cronin's reluctance to play him alongside Bilodeau and Dailey. 'When we get good guard play, we can beat anybody,' Cronin said last week after his guards played one of their most complete games in leading the Bruins to a 27-point rout of USC. Continue reading here From Dan Woike: Dorian Finney-Smith hobbled around, the ankle problems that kept him off the court in the Lakers' losses to Brooklyn and Denver, obvious. Still, he fought with Kevin Durant and helped push the Phoenix star into missing eight of his first nine shots. In the second half, Finney-Smith would hit two big threes and have a key offensive rebound. Jordan Goodwin hadn't started consecutive games this season, nevertheless consecutive games for a team with NBA title hopes, and here he was Sunday, harassing Devin Booker. He opened the game with a tip-in and finished it by extending a possession with another hustle play. 'Never judge a player by his box score,' JJ Redick said of Goodwin, who had just two points and four fouls. And Jaxson Hayes, a former lottery pick given up on by the team that drafted him and by most of the league, feasted at the rim and ran in and out of defensive switches, the Lakers quickly reestablishing their defensive intensity after a four-game road trip where they never totally made it off the plane. 'We knew we had to be better,' Luka Doncic said. Continue reading here Lakers box score NBA scores NBA standings From Jack Harris: Mookie Betts' return to shortstop will have to wait until the Dodgers return home from Japan. Betts will miss both of the Dodgers' season-opening games at the Tokyo Dome this week against the Chicago Cubs, manager Dave Roberts said Monday, as he continues to recover from a stomach virus that has kept him out of action since last weekend. Betts is expected to be ready for the Dodgers' domestic home opener on March 27 against the Detroit Tigers. But in the meantime, Roberts said the Dodgers are 'contemplating' sending him back home to Los Angeles early, before the team departs following Wednesday's second game against the Cubs. 'He's still trying to find his way [physically],' Roberts said. 'I think the question is, what's best to get him ready for opening day? We're still talking. That's on the table.' Continue reading here From Broderick Turner: The Clippers are trending in the right direction, and on top of it, they are becoming whole with leading scorer Norman Powell back and James Harden sustaining his high level of play. They've won six of their last seven games, with the Clippers' 123-88 blowout win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday at the Intuit Dome pushing their winning streak to three. 'This was a good professional win,' Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said. For Lue, the shift began with the Clippers playing defense at a higher level while not forcing the action. Continue reading here Clippers-Hornets box score From Kevin Baxter: There is widespread agreement in Angel City's front office that this year, the club's fourth in the NWSL, is going to be a significant upgrade from its first three. The difference comes over how to describe that. President Julie Uhrman prefers 'a new chapter' while sporting director Mark Parsons likes 'Angel City 2.0.' 'My words are 2.0,' Parsons said. 'I'm just telling you. It's version two.' They were both right. Because while the operating system still needs a few updates, the opening chapter had a better ending than the two that preceded it with Angel City rallying for a 1-1 tie Sunday with the San Diego Wave at BMO Stadium. Defender Mathias 'Zanka' Jørgensen notched his first assist in his second career start and third appearance in the league. Felipe Mora scored his first goal of the season to give Portland (1-2-1) the lead in the 49th minute. It was Mora's 40th career goal for the Timbers. Cutter Gauthier had a goal and an assist, Nikita Nesterenko also scored and Mason McTavish had two assists for the Ducks, who lost for the fifth time in seven games. Lukas Dostal gave up five goals on 14 shots over the first two periods, and Ville Husso stopped 10 of the 12 shots he faced in the third. Marathon on Sunday, marking the first time an American has won the race in 31 years. The former Montana State University star finished with a time of 2:07:56 — nearly three minutes faster than runner-up Athanas Kioko and more than five minutes faster than third-place finisher Moses Kiptoo Kurgat. A native of Elburn, Ill., Richtman is the first American to win the event since Paul Pilkington in 1994. Kenyans have dominated the men's race in the decades since, winning 21 times since 1999, according to NBC Los Angeles. 'It's definitely a surprise,' Richtman said moments after crossing the finish line. 'You know, I came in feeling really good. It's really hard to judge where you stack up against competition, but it was a really good group out there today, and I was really happy to run with those guys and then ultimately win it.' Richtman said he drew inspiration from the atmosphere in Los Angeles.
