Gov. DeWine presents Austintown school with reading award
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is visiting the Valley to present a local school with a special recognition.
It's an award he first announced during his State of the State Address last month, going to schools across Ohio that excel in reading.
Mike and Fran DeWine praised the efforts of students at Austintown Elementary School. They also watched kindergarteners and first graders show how they are learning to read by sounding out the letters.
Austintown embraced this program years ago, before the COVID pandemic even started. Already, they are showing dramatic improvements.
