Surprise pick in public vote for greatest Aussie entertainment export
The results are in, and it turns out some of Australia's most iconic actors and singers are no match for a cartoon dog.
Earlier this year, launched The Great Aussie Debate, a wide-ranging, 50 question survey that has uncovered what Australians really think about all the hot topics of 2025.
Over two weeks, more than 54,000 Australians took part in the survey, revealing their thoughts on everything from the cost of living and homeownership, to electric vehicles and going shoeless in supermarkets.
One of the questions on the survey asked participants to pick Australia's 'most iconic export' from a list of eight options: Raygun, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, The Wiggles and Bluey.
And the results were conclusive: The ABC's smash hit family cartoon Bluey romped to victory with 31% of the vote, followed by Kylie Minogue (16%), Hugh Jackman (15%), and The Wiggles (14%).
Spare a thought for controversial Olympic breakdancer Raygun, who finished dead last in the poll, with just 1% of the vote. She finished behind even Russell Crowe, a Kiwi who we've long claimed as an honorary Aussie.
Digging further into the data, Bluey was the most popular choice across all age groups, but scored highest of all among respondents aged 30–39 – suggesting parents of young kids are enjoying the worldwide smash show just as much as their children.
Australia's biggest argument finally settled
And Bluey is set to become even more omnipresent in the years to come: The animated TV show is set to make its big screen debut in 2027, in a joint production from Disney and the BBC.
The show's creator Joe Brumm confirmed a script had been written, but Disney has kept details limited, confirming only that it 'will continue the adventures of Bluey, a loveable, inexhaustible blue heeler dog who lives with her mum, dad and her little sister, Bingo'.
Brumm will be leading the movie's production in collaboration with BBC studios.
Since its launch on the ABC in 2018, the show has exploded in popularity with global audiences and was last year named the most watched TV show in the US, with audiences taking in more than 35 billion minutes of the show.
