Is Chris Hemsworth's Latest Wave Pool Performance Worthy of a CT Wildcard?
'I've been in the water for two hours and I've gotten more waves and barrels than I've gotten in the last five years,' said Australian Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth during four days of surfing Kelly Slater's newest wave pool in Abu Dhabi.
'Another epic trip to Abu Dhabi!!' Hemsworth wrote to his fans on Instagram. 'Spent four days surfing in the desert, eating good food, and all around good vibes.'
Hemsworth has clearly logged his hours in the pool since he first visited the wave six months ago. In a video he posted on his Instagram of his latest session at the pool with his sons, Hemsworth, best known for his role as Thor in the Marvel blockbusters, shows his prowess in the pool with impeccably timed bottom turns and stalls connecting to barrels and gouges.
Hemsworth posting a video at the pool to his 58.5 million followers is the best marketing that Surf Abu Dhabi – or the sport as a whole, for that matter – could ask for. Why not give the guy a wildcard to next year's Championship Tour event? Make the CT surfers nervous about being 'the guy who lost to Thor' in a heat. Wouldn't the resulting content be the most-viewed surf clips ever? Maybe.
OK, jokes aside, Hemsworth surfs incredibly well for having a career that keeps him away from the ocean for long stretches. He would surely win any celebrity all-star heat.
