Neil Young Scores A New Top 10 Album Thanks To His Latest Film
Neil Young's Coastal debuts at No. 6 on the Official Americana Albums chart and lands two more top ... More 20 wins across the U.K.'s physical and sales rankings. (Photo by) Neil Young has been a global superstar for well over half a century at this point. He began releasing music under his own name in the late 1960s, and ever since, he has remained a favorite among millions. The singer and songwriter is still hard at work and, in fact, much more prolific than many others his age, as he approaches 80. Young is known for delivering new full-lengths with regularity. Between studio recordings, re-releases, deluxe editions, live albums, and a bootleg series that just keeps growing, fans of the Canadian talent never have to wait long before getting their hands on brand new work. The country/rock/Americana musician is back on the charts with a new release this week in the United Kingdom — one that brings him close to the summit on multiple lists, and which even helps him score a handful of new top 10 wins. The soundtrack that accompanies Young's new documentary Coastal appears on three charts in the U.K. this week. It reaches the top 10 on two of them and only misses out on entering that coveted space on the third by a few spots. It seems that no matter what Young releases, fans are quick to buy. The Coastal project opens highest on the Official Americana Albums chart. On that list, which is specific to the genre in its name, Young enters at No. 6. As the set arrives, he earns his fourteenth career top 10. Only three of his projects that have landed anywhere on the tally have missed the uppermost region, which is a pretty impressive track record. The same title also barely breaks into the top 10 on the Official Physical Albums chart, which focuses exclusively on CDs, vinyl, and cassettes, regardless of the style of the music featured on the projects that hit the tally. Young starts Coastal at No. 10 on that roster, collecting his sixteenth career top 10 on this ranking. He has placed a total of 62 titles somewhere on the 100-spot list, so his percentage of top-tier placements isn't as high here as on the Americana-only list, though that's not surprising. Coastal also earns Young a new win on the Official Albums Sales chart. Although it doesn't land inside the top 10, the soundtrack kicks off its time at lucky No. 13 on what is arguably the most competitive of the three rankings it reaches this frame. The Coastal documentary followed Young as he returned to the road after COVID. The movie reached theaters in mid-April and was directed by his wife, Daryl Hannah, with whom he has worked before in this capacity. The project enjoyed a short run, grossing under $100,000 — a figure that's not unusual for this type of film. Clearly, it is also bringing in revenue thanks to its soundtrack, which has quickly become a bestselling release.

Neil Young's New Song Sparks MAGA Backlash: 'Bitter Old Liberal'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Neil Young has taken aim at Elon Musk in a new song, and quickly sparked backlash from MAGA, who in turn branded him a "bitter old liberal." Newsweek has reached out to a representative for Young outside of regular working hours via email for comment. Why It Matters Young is a legendary music artist, known for songs like "Rocking in the Free World," and "Old Man." The 79-year-old Canadian has often spoken about politics, having criticized Joe Rogan, President Donald Trump and recently endorsed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the recent federal election. Neil Young performs onstage during the Light Up The Blues 7 Concert celebrating Autism Speaks' 20th Anniversary at the Greek Theatre on April 26, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Neil Young performs onstage during the Light Up The Blues 7 Concert celebrating Autism Speaks' 20th Anniversary at the Greek Theatre on April 26, 2025 in Los Angeles, has become an ever-prominent presence in both U.S. and global politics; a staunch ally of Trump, he has been appointed by the president to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and has used his X, formerly Twitter, platform to push right-wing political movements globally. Musk is a "special government employee," and is set to leave his role at DOGE at the end of May. What To Know In clips from the Light Up the Blue benefit concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, Young performed the song with lyrics that included, "If you're a fascist, get a Tesla / It's electric, it doesn't matter / If you're a Democrat, taste your freedom / Get whatever you want, taste your freedom." "Come on Ford, come on GM / Come on Chrysler, let's roll again," he continued. "Build something special that people need / Build us a safe way for us to meet / Build something that won't kill our kids / Runs real clean." The Daily Beast reported that the song is titled "Let's Roll Again," but the title has not been officially confirmed yet. Musk's involvement in the U.S. government has sparked widespread protests, including some directed at his car company, Tesla. Musk has called for the prosecution of anti-Tesla protesters and said in response to the protest that he has "never done anything harmful," when speaking on Fox News, describing the backlash against Tesla as "shocking." Young recently shared concerns on his website that he could face a U.S. ban over his criticism of Trump. "When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket," Young wrote. "That is happening all the time now." And while Trump himself has not responded to these remarks or Young's latest song, Young has drawn the ire of his supporters online. Many of whom have quoted the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Sweet Home Alabama" (1974), which was written in response to Young's song, "Alabama"(1972) and includes the lyric, "I hope Neil Young will remember, a southern man don't need him around anyhow." What People Are Saying Ian Miles Cheong, co-host of The Other View Podcast, on X: "Neil Young has lost the plot." Oli London, a news personality, on X: "Neil Young sings bizarre song attacking Elon Musk." One user, who self-describes as an "American conservative and proud PATRIOT. Supporter of Donald Trump," on X: "This hippy NEVER grew up." Another user who states they are a Trump and MAGA supporter on X: "Just another bitter old liberal crying for attention." What Happens Next Young is set to tour in Europe in June and July this summer and will headline Glastonbury festival, before returning to the U.S. in August.

A New Era in Early Autism Support: LinusBio and Autism Speaks Partner to Promote Earlier Autism Diagnosis and Intervention
NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr 17, 2025-- LinusBio, a leader in precision exposome medicine, and Autism Speaks, the leading research and advocacy organization dedicated to supporting the autism community, today announced a partnership to advance early autism diagnosis and intervention. As part of the collaboration, Autism Speaks will provide educational materials and resources to families concerned about autism, helping them better understand the potential of biomarker testing for earlier detection. To further support accessibility, Autism Speaks will also offer ClearStrand-ASD — LinusBio's innovative biomarker test — at a reduced cost to families in need. LinusBio will additionally support Autism Speaks' ongoing community initiatives. This joint effort will directly power two major Autism Speaks initiatives: The first is the Autism Response Team (ART) — Autism Speaks' frontline support system that connects the autism community to trusted information and resources. Through this partnership, ART will share educational materials about ClearStrand-ASD and provide exclusive discount codes, helping families access the latest advancements in biomarker testing for autism. The second initiative is the Empower Summit & Challenge — a series of two-day events launching this spring in five U.S. cities. These events bring together autistic individuals, families, service providers, and policymakers to address some of the most pressing issues facing the community. At each summit, LinusBio will host an interactive space within the resource fair, offering families a hands-on opportunity to learn more about the cutting-edge science behind ClearStrand-ASD and how it may support earlier diagnosis and intervention. 'Autism Speaks is the leading organization in the U.S. focused on research and advocacy to support the autism community, and we are proud to partner with them to advance improved outcomes through innovation,' said Dr. Manish Arora, founder and CEO at LinusBio. 'Together, we aim not only to raise awareness among families, healthcare providers, and clinicians about the benefits of biomarker testing for autism — and how it can support earlier diagnosis and intervention — but also to make a tangible, immediate impact for families currently seeking answers.' Early diagnosis and interventions are key to better long-term outcomes, but many families still encounter lengthy delays in accessing the diagnostic support they need. ClearStrand-ASD offers a powerful new tool to support healthcare providers and caregivers during a critical window — ages 1 month to 36 months — when early intervention may be most effective. This partnership marks a major milestone in connecting families to essential healthcare resources when they need them most. 'At Autism Speaks, we're committed to supporting innovative research that could lead to earlier identification and more personalized care for people with autism,' said Dr. Andy Shih, Chief Science Officer at Autism Speaks. 'Our collaboration with LinusBio is focused on evaluating a promising diagnostic technology through rigorous, community-based research. By supporting participation of patients and their families through educational information from our Autism Response Team, we hope to ensure the tool could benefit a large and diverse population so that it may one day improve access to earlier diagnosis for families in need.' 'For most of my life, I was misdiagnosed or dismissed. Getting an autism diagnosis as an adult finally gave me the answers I had been searching for,' said Victoria Handy, an Autism Speaks Champion of Change. 'That experience changed how I see myself — and how I support my daughter, who is also autistic. Every family deserves the chance to understand sooner. That's why partnerships like this one matter. Tools like ClearStrand-ASD can give parents a head start on what I didn't have: answers early enough to truly help make a difference.' ClearStrand-ASD must be ordered by a licensed health care provider. LinusBio enables caregivers to request the test from home through an independent telehealth provider. The test is intended for infants and toddlers who are at an elevated risk of autism, such as those who were born preterm, who have a sibling with autism, or who have demonstrated characteristics associated with autism. If the test does not detect the biomarker, it is unlikely the child has autism. If the test does find the biomarker, the child may need further professional evaluation. ClearStrand-ASD now available at About LinusBio LinusBio (Linus Biotechnology Inc.) is a patient-centric, breakthrough science precision exposome medicine company headquartered in North Brunswick, NJ. The Company's program pipeline comprises precision exposome medicine biomarkers and target discovery across disease domains for which historically no molecular endpoints have been available in medical practice or for clinical trials, including CNS (autism spectrum disorder, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), gastroenterology (inflammatory bowel disease), renal disease and oncology.
