Nebraska softball sets new school home run record in 8-2 win over in-state rival Creighton On Wednesday night, the No. 21 Nebraska softball team (29-10) hosted in-state rival Creighton (15-20) for a single-game series. The Huskers made history, setting a new single-season home run record en route to an 8-2 victory. Nebraska blasted three home runs on the night, bringing its season total to a new program record 79 with 11 regular-season games left on the schedule. Samantha Bland broke the team's previous record in the bottom of the second with a three-run RBI shot, helping the Huskers cap off a 6-0 start. Ava Bredwell and Ava Kuszak delivered back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring Nebraska's lead to 8-1. Kuszak, Kacie Hoffmann and Emmerson Cope each finished with two hits and one RBI on the night. Hoffman also delivered a career-high two doubles in the win. Jordyn Bahl (16-4) earned the win after tossing 6.0 innings. She fired eight punchouts and allowed one run off five hits. Hannah Camenzind pitched the final inning, tossing one strikeout and surrendering two hits and a run. The Huskers travel east to take on Northwestern starting Saturday afternoon. Nebraska softball capitalizes on errors in 8-2 win to complete sweep over Minnesota Nebraska (23-8, 4-1) concluded its conference series with Minnesota (13-18, 2-5) on Sunday afternoon. Though the Golden Gophers started with the lead, the Huskers took advantage of errors and opportunities to get the 8-2 win and the series sweep. Minnesota held a 2-0 lead over Nebraska heading into the bottom of the third. But five errors by the Golden Gophers translated into five runs for the Huskers. Minnesota finished with six total errors. Nebraska extended its lead in the fifth, scoring three more runs to put the game away. The Huskers finished the day with eight hits for seven RBIs while holding the Golden Gophers to six hits for two RBIs. Nebraska scored eight runs in all three games while holding Minnesota to five runs across the whole series. Ava Bredwell finished 3-for-3 in the batter's box, co-leading the team with two RBIs alongside Samantha Bland and Ava Kuszak. Kuszak hit 2-for-4 while Bland finished 1-for-2. Jordyn Bahl also drove in an RBI, hitting a sacrificial grounder in the fifth. Kylee Magee (3-2) shut down the Golden Gophers in the pitching circle across the final three innings. She earned the win for Nebraska allowing no hits and no runs while firing three strikeouts. Emmerson Cope started in the pitching circle for the Huskers and allowed only one run in 2.0 innings. Caitlin Olensky took over for Cope in the following 2.0 innings and threw two strikeouts against three hits and a home run. Nebraska travels up to Omaha for a one-game clash with the Mavericks. The first pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday night.
