#SHOWBIZ: Are concert organisers re-selling booked venue slots?
KUALA LUMPUR: Local rock icon Datuk Awie has voiced his concerns about certain concert organisers allegedly engaging in unethical practices, specifically "selling" booked slots for event venues to other parties at inflated prices. Awie, drawing from his extensive experience in staging numerous concerts, particularly for his band Wings, described these actions as detrimental. He said they create difficulties for other organisers, especially given the limited availability of suitable concert venues, particularly in the capital. "We urge event and concert organisers to operate with integrity. It's unacceptable to book a venue for a specific date only to later resell it to another party at a significantly higher price. "This is opportunistic behaviour. As a concert organiser myself, I could engage in the same practice, but to what end? "My partners and I prioritise thorough discussion before taking any action. We avoid indefinitely 'locking in' dates and creating unnecessary complications." "New concerts are constantly seeking venues, but 'locking' them in without a genuine intention to stage a show is detrimental," he told BH Online, adding that concert venues in the country are already scarce. Awie said this during the recent Rockology 2025 Tour Concert press conference at the Malaysia Tourism Centre, here. The Wings frontman expressed hope that venue owners will implement more stringent screening processes to prevent organisers from exploiting the system and causing hardship for others. "We do not fault the venue management entirely, as they are, after all, operating a business. "However, it is crucial that they thoroughly vet applications. "We ourselves have encountered this issue, ultimately forcing us to seek alternative venues outside of Kuala Lumpur. "Fortunately, we received a performance request from another location, which we accepted," he said.

#SHOWBIZ: RPM Group of Companies organises Awie, Kid and Din rock tour
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's entertainment industry has marked a new chapter with the official launch of RPM Group of Companies, a collective of three dynamic entities: Rumah Produksi Merah Sdn. Bhd., RPM Events Sdn. Bhd., and RPM Labels Sdn. Bhd. The launch event showcased the group's vision, with Rumah Produksi Merah positioned as a leader in creative content production, encompassing drama series, films, and high-impact entertainment programmes. RPM Events will specialise in event management, focusing on concerts, music festivals, corporate events, and large-scale productions. Meanwhile, RPM Labels will concentrate on artiste development, music production, and talent discovery. "The establishment of RPM Group is more than just a combination of companies; it's a movement to strengthen Malaysia's entertainment industry with a more professional, structured, and impactful approach," said Datuk Eddy Amir Salim, a director of RPM Group of Companies, in a statement today. He added: "With these three entities operating in synergy, we believe we can produce works that are not only entertaining but also provide value to society and the nation." The launch also served as the platform for the announcement of the Rockology Concert Tour 2025, a nationwide initiative by RPM Events aimed at reigniting the passion for Malaysian rock music. The tour will feature iconic figures in the country's rock scene: Datuk Awie, and Kid and Din of Search. Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "I accepted the invitation to be involved in the Rockology Concert Tour 2025 because I believe in the mission and spirit behind it. It's not just a regular concert tour; it's a movement to revive the soul of rock in this country." Awie also highlighted the tour's social impact: "Part of the funds or profits obtained from this concert will be channelled to our upcoming CSR program, Konsert Wings Dalam Penjara, a project specifically designed to support communities in need of attention and rehabilitation support. This is our way of giving back to the community, especially those who are often marginalised." Eddy echoed this sentiment, stating, "The establishment of RPM Group of Companies is a crucial step in consolidating our expertise within the entertainment landscape." "The Rockology Concert Tour 2025 marks the beginning of our mission to elevate the local rock scene to a more professional, sustainable, and organised level. "We welcome sponsors and strategic partners to join us in making this concert a resounding success, not just as a music platform, but as a cultural and social movement," he said. The Rockology Concert Tour 2025 is set to take place at two locations: Midtown Perda, Penang, on June 21, and EduCity Sports Complex, Johor, on July 5. The tour is expected to draw a crowd of up to 15,000 rock music enthusiasts from both Malaysia and Singapore.
