Palkhi procession of Sant Nivruttinath Maharaj starts from Trimbakeshwar

Nashik: The annual 'palkhi' procession of Sant Nivruttinath Maharaj started from Trimbakeshwar for Pandharpur on Tuesday in presence of thousands of 'warkaris'.
This procession will travel over the next 27 days to reach Pandharpur for Ashadi Ekadashi.
The 'palkhi' procession reached Kushavart pond in Trimbakeshwar at 2 pm, where a puja was performed. Subsequently, the palkhi reached in front of Trimbakeshwar temple, where the devotees of the Varkari sect started singing devotional songs. Later, the 'palkhi' began its sojourn amid rendition of 'abhangs' and playing of 'taals'.
The palkhi's first halt was at Mahanirvani Akhada, two kilometres from Trimbakeshwar.
The Nashik city police will reach Satpur on Wednesday, where it will halt for the night, and on Thursday morning, it will stop at Panchayat Samiti Nashik office. The next halt will be at Namdev Vitthal temple Kajipura, and overnight stay will be at Ayurved Hospital, Ganeshwadi.
On Friday, the 'palkhi' will move towards Muktidham, Nashik Road. On Saturday, it will proceed towards Pandharpur. Police have effected traffic diversions in the city on the procession route.
Police officials said that no other vehicles, other than the vehicles part of the 'palkhi' procession, will be allowed on the procession routes within the city. police have deployed strict bandobast on the procession route.
