Rims launches e-prescription system for five departments

Ranchi: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) has initiated a trial of e-prescription services in its psychiatry department as a part of its plan to bring digital transformation in healthcare . Initially, the e-prescription system will be implemented in five departments — psychiatry, ENT, ophthalmology, nephrology, and plastic surgery before being expanded across all outpatient departments (OPDs). The initiative is a part of the hospital's project to modernize service delivery. To ensure smooth adoption, the hospital will equip all OPD doctors with tablets and computers. Public relation officer (PRO) at Rims, Dr Rajeev Ranjan, said, "This will facilitate the usage of the next gen software for writing e-prescriptions, which are linked to patients' Unique Health Identification and Ayushman Bharat Health Account IDs, allowing them and doctors to access complete medical history from anywhere." Officials highlighted several benefits of the new system, including reduced prescription errors, better monitoring of chronic and mental health conditions, and improved follow-up care. Through the integration of ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) and UHID (Unique Health ID), patients can access their prescription slips from anywhere. This system also enables the maintenance of a complete and centralized medical history. Additionally, with doctors using tablets to access e-prescriptions in the OPD, patients can be attended to more quickly, and physicians can instantly retrieve detailed treatment records. The trial was successfully conducted for selected patients in psychiatry OPD, with plans to roll out full-scale implementation after staff training and infrastructure setup."
