Contractors to get notice over poor road work
Udupi: The concrete roads built under the
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
(PMGSY) have deteriorated, and their maintenance period expired. Typically, concrete roads should last 15 years, but complaints are arising about roads being damaged within six or seven years, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary said, and instructed officials to issue notices to the concerned contractors and have the roads MP spoke while chairing the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at Udupi zilla panchayat in Manipal on Tuesday.
A budget of Rs 1,412 crore was sanctioned for
national highway development
works in the district. He emphasised the need to quickly complete the land acquisition process for ongoing projects like Hebri, Parkala, and the highway from Karavali Junction to Malpe, and to promptly compensate the affected parties to expedite the work. He noted that gathering necessary materials beforehand would help in completing projects urged officials to effectively implement the schemes and programmes introduced by the central govt for the district's development and the welfare of the general public.
