Man caught after alleged break-in and underwear theft
TENOM: A man was arrested after allegedly breaking into a house in Kampung Saga and stealing jewellery, watches and women's underwear.
The incident, which occurred around 8.30pm on Saturday, came to light when the victim's neighbour heard a loud noise coming from the house.
The neighbour alerted nearby villagers, who quickly surrounded the property.
District police chief Superintendent Azmir Abd Razak said the man was spotted climbing out of a rear window of the house.
"He was apprehended by the villagers, and several items believed to have been stolen were found in his possession, including some jewellery, three pairs of women's underwear and a screwdriver," Azmir said.
A Perodua Kancil parked by the roadside, believed to belong to the suspect, was also found at the scene.
The villagers later contacted the police.
"Upon arrival, we arrested the man.
"Initial checks showed he had entered the house by breaking the rear window of a bedroom.
"At the time, the homeowner was in Kota Kinabalu.
"The suspect and the seized items were taken to the Beaufort district police headquarters for further investigation," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
