Colorado Muslim community condemns attack in Boulder: ‘He does not represent us'
BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Azra Taslimi, a civil rights attorney, says the Muslim community in Colorado, including the Islamic Center in Boulder, condemns the attack that took place on Sunday.
Boulder sent reeling after another terrifying attack on the community. Police arrested Mohamed Soliman, who witnesses say was seen throwing Molotov cocktails and screaming things like free Palestine at the crowd of senior citizens on a weekly walk raising awareness for the Israeli hostages.
Rabbi talks about how Boulder attacks have left community reeling: 'I know all of them'
'The Muslim community rejects any suggestion or claim that his actions were carried out in advocacy or support of the Palestinian people and it is our community that understands best that violence and threats. Under my legitimate advocacy and they are absolutely incompatible with our community's principles,' Taslimi said.
Muslim groups from across the state have come together to condemn the attack. In a letter, members of the Muslim community in Colorado said their hearts go out to those impacted, calling the attack cowardly and deplorable.
Taslimi says freedom of speech and freedom of assembly are something she and her community value.
'You know, and I think that these are moments that really define communities, right. When something horrific like this happens, it is so important to send out the message that this one — rogue. Individual does not speak for us. He does not represent us,' Taslimi said.
Taslimi adds that the Muslim community stands with the Jewish community in Boulder and across Colorado against this violence.
