Ghana's Cedi Jumps more than 40% against the US dollar

Taarek Refaat Ghana's cedi has jumped more than 40% against the US dollar this year, far outperforming its African and emerging market peers, reducing the country's external debt burden and giving it more fiscal breathing room. MarketScreener reported today that the rally, which surprised some investors, represents another much-needed boost for the West African nation as it works its way back from a debt default and economic crisis. In total, the cedi has risen 42% against the dollar since January, trading near 10.20 to the dollar on Wednesday morning. "We have reduced our total debt over the past five months by about 150 billion cedis, which is very significant," Ghanaian President John Mahama said during a session during the annual meeting of the African Development Bank in Abidjan this week, citing the strength of the cedi. If this trajectory continues, the target of reaching 55-58% debt sustainability by 2028 will be achieved by the end of this year, which means it begins to give us fiscal space to start investing in the most productive sectors of the economy.' read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

US Economy Loses $12.5 Billion due to Decline in Tourism

Taarek Refaat Foreign tourist spending in the United States has declined significantly this year, amid rising negative perceptions related to trade and immigration policies, which have led to a loss of more than $12 billion this year, according to a report by Oxford Economics. The report indicated that losses could reach $8.5 billion in 2025, a decrease of an estimated 5% compared to last year. This decline is attributed to the decline in tourist traffic, with the number of international visitors expected to fall by 9%, according to Arne Ryan, director of industry studies at Tourism Economics. Regions and businesses that rely on foreign tourists face significant economic risk as a result of this decline. While some estimates suggest losses of $8.5 billion, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) predicts losses of up to $12.5 billion by 2025, describing it as a "direct blow to the U.S. economy," impacting communities, jobs, and businesses across the country. Ryan explained that "people's perceptions of the United States are important in travel decisions," adding that the Trump administration's policies, particularly those related to border security and tariffs, have created a negative climate for potential travelers. According to the data, flight bookings to the United States between May and July fell 11% compared to the same period last year, while Europe and Canada recorded declines of 10% and 33%, respectively. The U.S. Travel Association predicts that if this trend continues, it will result in losses of $21 billion in tourism revenue by 2025, confirming that every 1% decline in tourism spending costs the U.S. economy $1.8 billion annually. Experts believe the strength of the US dollar is a contributing factor, along with fears of slowing global growth and escalating trade tensions. By 2025, Oxford Economics expects international arrivals to grow by around 9% and their spending to increase by 16%. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

These Air Force fighters and bombers just flew together for the first time

Attendees at a recent Miami airshow witnessed an unprecedented 'Freedom Flyover' of three types of Air Force bombers and four types of fighters that had never been seen flying together before, said Charles Hoffman, a spokesman for Air Force Global Strike Command. 'It's not just about fighters and bombers,' Hoffman told Task & Purpose. 'It's about an integrated team of professionals coming together across the total force to illustrate the readiness and resolve of the active duty, Guard and Reserve force any time…anywhere.' The 2025 Hyundai Air & Sea Show on Saturday marked the first time that a B-52H, B-1B, B-2, F-22. F-15C, F-16C, and A-10 have flown in a formation, Hoffman said. 'We have done a few tri-bomber flyovers, and the command wanted to do something special and unique to honor the fallen for Memorial Day at the Miami Air Show,' Hoffman said. The reason that an F-35A Joint Strike Fighter was not part of the formation is that none were available at the time, Hoffman said. Each of the aircraft showcased different capabilities that the Air Force brings to the fight, Hoffman said. The B-2 is designed to penetrate advanced enemy air defenses, and both the B-52 and B-1 are able to attack targets from a distance with standoff weapons, he said. 'The fighters represent the ability to get global strike to and from anywhere … anytime and maintain air superiority and persistent tactical ground attack,' Hoffman said. The airmen had to show tremendous skill to fly the seven aircraft in a single formation, especially since the fighters are designed to fly much faster than the bombers, he said. The display of airpower comes after a recent 'elephant walk' of 53 Air Force and Navy aircraft along with Army missile batteries at Kadena Air Base, Japan. As Task & Purpose previously reported, that elephant walk contained just about every airframe needed for a fight in the Pacific — and was likely put on with China in mind. Task & Purpose asked Hoffman if the Air Force was sending a message to China with the Freedom Flyover's unique combination of fighters and bombers. 'The flyover served to honor the fallen for Memorial Day and simultaneously illustrated the Air Force's ability to project power, communicate resolve, and provide options in times of crisis,' Hoffman replied. Still, the formation's first-ever combination of bombers and fighters demonstrated that the Air Force is 'not to be trifled with,' said retired Air Force Col. Mark Gunzinger, a former B-52 instructor pilot and flight evaluator. 'Did it send a signal to our nation's enemies, including China? Absolutely,' said Gunzinger, who previously served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for forces transformation and resources. Gunzinger noted that the planes that took part in the Miami airshow were flown by both active-duty troops and reservists. 'China is rolling out a lot of new kit, but a key point is their airmen lack the decades of combat experience our airmen have, and that can make the difference between victory and failure in war,' said Gunzinger, who is currently the director of future concepts and capability assessments at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies. However, Gunzinger added that the planes that flew at the Miami airshow were designed decades ago. The B-52, for example, first flew in 1952, just five years after the Air Force became an independent military branch. 'We have the combat edge in terms of experience,' Gunzinger said. 'We have the best airmen in the world, but we must increase our advantage over China by providing our airmen with new kit, because we don't want to engage in a fair fight. We want to dominate, and that will only occur if we modernize our Air Force.' 18 Army Rangers suspended for allegedly firing blanks at Florida beach Hegseth announces accountability review of Afghanistan withdrawal Coast Guard rescue swimmers saved a worker stuck in hardening concrete after roof collapse This National Guard unit went completely analog to simulate a cyber attack Fewer reenlistment options for soldiers amid high Army retention

Egypt Invests EGP 2.5 Bln to Increase High Dam's Capacity to 2,400 MW

Taarek Refaat The Hydro Plants Generation Company, affiliated with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Energy, announced a new comprehensive project to develop the Aswan High Dam's power plants. The project aims to increase the plant's nominal capacity to 2,400 megawatts by 2028, up from the current 2,100 megawatts, with investments totaling approximately EGP 2.5 billion (equivalent to approximately €41 million). This is part of an integrated development plan encompassing various technical and operational sectors. Hesham Kamal, Chairman of the Hydro Plants Generation Company revealed during the Ordinary General Assembly held, Wednesday, that the project includes the replacement and renovation of 20 power transformers at the High Dam and Aswan Power Plants 1 and 2. The chairman added that four transformers will be installed during the 2025/26 fiscal year, with a total added capacity of 100 megawatts, gradually increasing the nominal capacity to a total increase of 300 megawatts. The project also includes replacing and renewing the stator coils of the Esna power plant units to improve operational efficiency; rehabilitating the excitation systems and voltage regulators of the main and auxiliary generators in both the High Dam and Aswan; supplying and installing 19 500 kV current transformers in the High Dam/Nagaa Hammadi circuits; and installing new 15.75 kV circuit breakers in the High Dam units. This project is part of the state's plan to achieve the goals of Egypt Vision 2030 in the field of sustainable energy and digital transformation, while enhancing reliance on local resources and modernizing the national electricity grid infrastructure. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies
