Negotiations for peace deal wit bandits go fit solve Nigeria insecurity palava?
For about four months now, peace don return for Birnin Gwari local goment area of Kaduna state, northern Nigeria, afta one peace agreement di state goment reach wit di bandits wey bin dey terrorize di area. Di bandits bin agree to drop dia arms and stop dia reign of terror for in and around di state. For November 2024, di Kaduna state govnor, Uba Sani bin receive wetin e call "repentant bandits" as part of im goment initiative to build bridges and subsequently get di bandits to lay down dia arms. E say dem no give di bandits any money but dem humble dem through open, honest dialogue. "Through numerous meetings and extensive discussions, we don build bridges of trust. Several senior bandit leaders don lay di arms and embrace peace, along wit dia followers. Bifor di agreement, Kaduna state bin dey under intense attacks from bandits wey dey terrorize di state, especially for Chikun, Kagarko, Giwa, Kajuru, and Birnin Gwari local goment areas of di state. Dia oda areas of attack na major highways. These bandits no only dey tiff and kill, but dem dey kidnap pipo too, plenty school children become victims of dia terrors. Why Govnor Uba Sani for Kaduna negotiate wit bandits? However, dis no be di first time wey goment for some states of Nigeria don make peace wit bandits wey dey operate for di region. Some state govnors for di northern part of Nigeria wey dey face security wahala don tok say dem dey open to negotiate wit insurgents for dia region. Similar negotiation happun during di time of former governor of Zamfara state, Bello Muhammad Matawalle. E work for some time but later di bandits return to dia banditry work. Di question wey some Nigerians dey ask be say, dis negotiation fit last forever? Wetin make dis negotiation different from di ones wey dem don do before? And whether e go get any effect for di future? Kaduna State Govnor, Senator Uba Sani, don reveal why im administration decide to do peace deal wit di bandits wey dey terrorize some parts of di state. For one interview wit BBC Hausa service, Sani say di decision to do dialogue na sake of di pipo wey beg for di violence stop, especially di residents wey di wahala don affect well well. "Na di pipo wey di violence dey affect na dem call for di dialogue. For example, di Emir of Birnin Gwari don come wit im pipo to beg for dialogue. When I ask am im reason, e tok say our communities don suffer from di banditry wahala, and e don lead to di deaths of plenty pipo and hundreds of our pipo don dey kidnapped for more dan ten years now, wit no lasting solution." Di govnor still tok say di appeal by di leaders of di communities, im meet wit important stakeholders, including di National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, bifor e finally decide to start di peace deal. Di negotiation wit bandits go fit bring lasting peace for northern Nigeria? For dis matter, some security experts dey see am as beta development if dem put correct measures in place, e fit bring lasting peace for di northern region wey don dey battle insecurity for ova ten years. Dr Yahuza wey be security expert and di managing director for Eagle Integrated Security and Logistics Company for Abuja, Nigeria capital believe say any measure wey dem fit take to avoid bloodshed suppose dey welcome since e fit bring peace, and di money wey dem dey use fight insurgents fit be use build infrastructure. "Any measure wey fit bring peace and help stop bloodshed, I tik say e good one. We know say di Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, don go some states including Birnin Gwari region wia e tell di leaders, including di govnor of Kaduna state, make dem find ways to bring peace for di state." E tok say di bandits na Nigerians, which mean say dem fit go live dia lives for community. "Dis bandits na Nigerians too, and some of dem fit get talent wey go fit benefit di country if negotiation happun between both sides. Because e go bring peace for di community." "Di peace wey dey Birnin Gwari right now na proof say di peace tok fit produce beta result." Dr Getso add say, e good make Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi plus oda Nigerian states wey dey face insecurity wahala try di same measures wey Kaduna state goment don use to bring peace for dia region. "Why we no try apply di same tin for Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina, since up till now peace never still dey these regions, even though goment dey spend plenty money to bring peace? "If dem negotiate, dem fit use di money for beta things like getting more infrastructure." Oga Getso tok. E add say if dem take correct measures during di negotiation, including know who di bandits be and who di victims be, e go really help bring lasting peace. Wetin be di implication? Dr Yetso tok say di only implication e tink dis negotiation fit bring na if authorities no take good measures during di negotiation and if di remaining states wey dey experience insecurity refuse to do dialogue wit di bandits, becos di terrorist fit move from Kaduna to oda states do dia operations. "Di implication be say if di authorities no put measures in place di problem fit come back". "Anoda implication be say if di oda states no take di same measures dos pipo fit comot from Kaduna go oda places like Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara do dia dirty work and then comeback Kaduna do dia normal life." Nigeria northwest region don see increase in attacks from bandits and armed groups in recent years. Data from Nigeria National Bureau of Statistics record nearly 615,000 deaths in attacks between May 2023 and April 2024, and di northwest carry di highest number wit more dan 200,000 killings.

Di two men, wey bin be each oda political support, don dey fight demsef since di change of goment and di tensions bin rise afta Uba Sani become govnor. Na dat time di tok to investigate El-Rufai goment and how im administration spend money during im tenure begin rise, situation wey show signs of conflict between dem. Di incident surprise many pipo as political observers believe say El-Rufai dey get hand for Uba Sani victory for di governorship race. Bello say for im opinion, dis no mean anytin becos to do research no be crime, but if dem do am without any purpose, na violation of God. "Investigation no be for anyone, but if you dey investigate for injustice or to insult pesin or sake of say pesin don wrong you, den God go punish you. God go forgive you everytin but I no go infringe on anybody rights." Dem fit dey divided? Wen we ask if e think say e fit reconcile dem, Bello tok clearly, "By God, no be my job, my job na to focus on helping di pipo of Kaduna North constituency." E bin show say im want peace and say e for like am between dem. "I like peace and to maintain trust. If pesin touch me, we go argue wit dem, but no be outside, but dis na me." Bello finally show say possibility dey to bring back peace between di two, as im emphasize di position of di two of dem and how im dey pray for peace between dem. "For me, no one beta pass Mallam Nasiru politically. Im bin only put im work first and na so I wan be. Na my papa, papa na papa." "And about Govnor Uba Sani, all di pipo wey dey wait for me to say sometin about am, dem go surprise." For many states for Nigeria, similar situation kontinu to occur, wia tension dey for relationship between former govnors and di pipo wey dem bin support to succeed dem. Seventeen pupils burnt to death in Nigeria school fire
At least 17 children have died in a fire at an Islamic school in northern Nigeria. Several other pupils were injured and rushed to health centres in the town of Kauran Namoda, Zamfara state, for treatment. It is believed that the fire broke out in a nearby house on Tuesday night and spread to the school while the children, believed to be teenagers, were sleeping. Local authorities and emergency responders were sent to the scene, but the fire had already resulted in significant casualties. Eyewitness Yahaya Mahi told BBC Hausa the location of the school made it difficult for those trying to stop the fire. 'Even if the firefighters had come on time, reaching the house would've been difficult due to the tight road leading to the house,' he said. Local official Mannir Haidara said other Islamic schools would be inspected to make sure they were not a fire risk. 'We'll take measures to prevent another occurrence of this nature,' he said. The father of one of the victims told BBC Hausa that he was devastated but his faith in God was comforting him at this time.
