Michelle McManus joins Robbie Williams on stage at Murrayfield Stadium for incredible duet
Robbie Williams kicked off his European tour at Murrayfield Stadium last night with Glasgow popstar Michelle McManus joining the singer on stage for a duet of Relight My Fire.
Robbie Williams fans were left stunned last night when Glasgow pop star Michelle McManus made a special appearance on stage alongside the singer as the Rock DJ hitmaker kicked off his Britpop tour at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium last night. The Baillieston born singer, who formerly won Pop Idol in 2003, joined her long time pal Robbie on stage at the capital, singing to crowds of 70,000 as the pair performed a duet of Relight My Fire.
Their joint rendition of the track, which was famously covered by Take That in 1993, delighted fans who rose to their fans in a standing ovation. Robbie's setlist yesterday evening featured all of his most famous tracks i ncluding She's The One, Feel, Angels and Let Me Entertain You in what was an unforgettable night for his loyal fanbase.
Ahead of her performance last night, Michelle, 45, confessed she was feeling more nervous about singing in front of Robbie than she was when she performed for the Pope. She said: 'My happy place is when I sing, so the singing part is not the problem.
"The nervous part is singing to Robbie Williams in front of 70,000 people.
'When we did the Pope's visit in Bellahouston, it was 80,000—but singing for a bunch of cardinals and a Pope was slightly different from singing for Robbie Williams.'
It was reported back in March that Robbie, 51, had surprised Michelle with an invitation to sing with him during her BBC Scotland Radio show.
As their interview came to an end, Robbie unexpectedly asked: 'Would you like to come and sing with me in Edinburgh?'
Michelle was left stunned by his proposal as she responded: 'Sorry… What? What was that?'
She was quick to take him up on his offer as she emotionally added: 'Yes, I'm saying yes—I would love that. You are amazing. And you are an incredible human being. I meant every word I said before this even came up.'
Following their joint performance, Michelle shared a snap of the moment on her Instagram Stories, showing her and Robbie singing together on stage.
She simply captioned it: 'This diva though.'
Robbie also shared his own social media post with several snaps from his performance throughout the evening.
The main snap showed the singer dangling upside down above the crowds as he captioned the post: 'Scotland – I love you. That was an incredible opening night. Until next time. Rob x'
Fans took to the comment section to gush over his opening night gig.
One wrote: "Wow- what a show. i'm still flabbergasted. you can truly call yourself the king of entertainment."
Another added: "The best escapism! I felt like we were all in a bubble, you're incredible and we love you."
A third chimed in: "Rob is the best!"
