All-rounder Jamie Overton re-signs with Adelaide Strikers for BBL 15

New Delhi [India] May 29 (ANI): The Adelaide Strikers have secured a major player for the Big Bash League (BBL) 15 season, as they announced the pre-draft signing of explosive fast-bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton for his third consecutive season, according to the Adelaide Strikers website. Overton, a fan favourite and the reigning BBL MVP from the Dansie McCauley medal night, has become a pivotal player for the Strikers. Despite a challenging BBL 14 campaign for the team, Overton was a standout performer. He claimed 11 wickets throughout the season, including a crucial 2-27 in a tense 11-run loss to the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval. His contributions were not limited to the ball; Overton also proved destructive with the bat, amassing 191 runs at an extraordinary average of 95.40, with a top score of 45 not out. Overton expressed his excitement about returning to the familiar blue of the Strikers. 'I'm absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Adelaide for another season,' said Overton. 'I've loved my time with the Strikers and the incredible support we get from the fans at Adelaide Oval. It's a fantastic Club with a great bunch of lads, and I'm determined to help us push for finals and ultimately, the BBL title in BBL|15.' Adelaide Strikers Head Coach, Tim Paine, reflected on the re-signing as a significant move for the Club heading into BBL 15. 'Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us,' Paine stated. 'His last two seasons with the Strikers have been outstanding, not just with his individual performances with both bat and ball, but also with his competitive spirit and energy he brings to the group.' 'Jamie has such a big impact over the game, he can change the course of a match in just a few overs. This signing is a fantastic first step in building our squad for a successful BBL|15 campaign, and we know our members and fans will be delighted to see him back in blue,' he added. (ANI)

I don't know if you guys have been watching the BBL (Big Bash League), but we've had one young kid that's just emerged out of nowhere, a kid called Mitch Owen, who has opened the batting for the Hobart Hurricanes. He's also an all-rounder, probably more than Marsh,' Ponting told ICC Review. Punjab Kings bring in fastest BBL centurion to replace injured Glenn Maxwell for remainder of IPL 2025

Punjab Kings have announced their replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell for the remainder of IPL 2025, with Australian Big Bash League hero Mitch Owen being drafted in by the franchise. IPL confirmed in a statement that Owen will be replacing Maxwell for the remainder of the season, receiving INR 3 crore. The all-rounder made a name for himself in this season's Big Bash, helping Hobart Hurricanes to the BBL14 title with a sparkling century in the final. Owen scored 108 off just 42 deliveries in the final in an innings that included 11 maximums, helping the Hurricanes chase down 183 in just 14.1 overs. It was the crowning achievement in a strong showing that saw Mitch Owen finish the season as the top-scorer in the tournament, finishing with 452 runs. Despite his powerful showing, Owen still awaits a debut for Australia in the shortest format. However, Owen's powerful batting has earned him a chance in the IPL, joining a PBKS team trying to reach their first IPL playoffs in 11 years. In his career in the T20 format, Owen has scored 646 runs at a strike-rate of 184 in 34 matches through his career. Owen is currently playing in the Pakistan Super League for the Peshawar Zalmi, having scored 101 runs in 6 innings at a strike-rate touching 200 this season. 23-year-old Owen joins forces with the greatest cricketer from his home territory of Tasmania, with Ricky Ponting in his first season as head coach with the Punjab team. Ponting also serves as head of strategy for Hobart Hurricanes, and has experience working with Owen in the past through the BBL team. He joins the strong Australian cohort already present within the PBKS camp. Maxwell had a quiet IPL season before his injury-enforced withdrawal caused due to a fractured finger, managing only 48 runs in seven matches at a strike-rate of less than run-a-ball. This included a string of six single-digit scores. Maxwell saw himself rotated with fellow Australian Josh Inglis in the middle order. The addition of Owen will provide a boost for Punjab Kings as the team tries to make the final push towards the playoffs. The Shreyas Iyer-led side prepares to their first match of the season at their secondary home base of Dharamsala, where they welcome Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday evening.

IPL 2025: Who is Mitchell Owen, Glenn Maxwell's replacement signing at Punjab Kings?

Punjab Kings on Sunday announced Australian youngster Mitchell Owen as the replacement for his senior compatriot and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was recently ruled out of the IPL 2025 season with an injury. The 23-year-old will travel from his current Pakistan base as he featured for Peshawar Zalmi as recently as Friday in Lahore. Who is Mitchell Owen? In January 2025, Owen made the headlines when he smashed the joint-fastest Big Bash League (BBL) century in the final for Hobart Hurricanes, leading them to the title triumph over Sydney Thunder. Owen obliterated the record books with his 39-ball century, equalling Craig Simmons' 39-ball ton fro BBL 03. The Tasmania-born batter made his BBL debut in 2021 but fell short of a consistent run. However, Owen ended up smashing the batting charts in BBL 14, scoring 452 runs, including two hundreds in 11 matches. Interestingly, despite only amassing over 600 runs in the format, the hard-hitting batter has already racked up two hundreds. Owen's cricket journey began with a state contract with Tasmania in 2020, an opportunity which came on the back of 415 runs at an average of 60 in the 2019-20 Under-19 National Championships. Owen has also made his mark in List A and First-Class cricket. He made his List A debut for Tasmania in February 2021 and his First-Class debut in October 2023 against South Australia.
