Florida man shot after pointing BB gun that resembled 'realistic-looking' rifle at officers: police
A Florida man was shot after pointing a "BB gun that resembled a realistic-looking rifle" at officers in the Orlando area, police said. Matthew Wagner, 20, was hit with gunfire midday Thursday in Kissimmee when police responded to a "911 call for a man armed with a rifle" near a shopping center, according to Chief Charles Broadway. "Upon arriving on scene, our officers encountered an individual holding a rifle. Our officers gave several verbal commands and warnings to put the rifle down," Broadway said. "The subject then pointed this rifle at the officers and at that time, the officers were forced to shoot the subject to defend themselves and others in the area. The officers immediately started to render aid until EMS arrived to transport the subject to a local hospital," he added. Broadway said Wagner is in stable condition following the shooting. The three police officers involved have now been placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney's Office are reviewing the incident. "Right now, we do not have a motive and do not know why the individual pointed the rifle at our officers, but I'm thankful that none of our officers were injured and I want to acknowledge the quick actions of our officers who responded under such a high-pressure circumstance," Broadway continued. "An early review of the evidence found the rifle to be a BB gun that resembled a realistic-looking rifle," he also said. It's unclear if Wagner will face charges. "I [saw] a young man with a gun in his hand… and he looked like he was looking up at the trees," witness Dexter Brown told Fox35 Orlando. "He was walking very slow... like he was hunting for birds or squirrels or whatever. I don't know what it was." The station reported that the BB rifle is a Daisy Christmas Wish Red Ryder.

Police respond to weapons calls in downtown London
Reports of a firearm in the downtown core on Monday evening prompted a police response, and resulted in charges for one man. According to London police, shortly before 10 p.m. they received reports of a man showing citizens a firearm in the area of Wellington Street and Horton Street East. Police say that they located the man nearby and the handgun was discovered to be a BB style replica handgun. The weapon was seized, and a 37-year-old London man faces charges of:

Austin police fatally shoot man in wheelchair holding replica gun
The Brief A man in a wheelchair was shot and killed by Austin police on Saturday morning. Austin Police say the man did not listen to commands and pointed a gun at an officer. The man's gun was later found to be a Glock replica BB gun, according to police. AUSTIN - Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that killed a man in a wheelchair in South Austin. What we know Police say they received calls around 9:50 a.m. for a man blocking traffic in a wheelchair on West William Cannon Drive, not far from Menchaca Road. 911 callers told dispatchers that the person pointed a gun at them. When officers arrived at the scene, they were told the man had a gun in his lap. One of the officers also reported seeing the gun. An officer gave the man multiple commands to drop the gun. Police say the suspect then pointed the gun at the officer and the officer fired six rounds, killing the man. The gun that was recovered from the scene was found to be a Glock replica BB gun, according to police. No officers were injured. What we don't know Austin police say they will release more information about the shooting on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. The name of the man who was shot has not been released. Student charged after bringing unloaded handgun into South Jersey school, police say
A student and a guardian were charged after the former brought an unloaded gun to Winslow Township Elementary School 5 on Wednesday, police said. Police said on Thursday that officers went to the school at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday after a weapon was recovered. The student at the school was showing classmates a "BB gun," police said. The BB gun was later identified as a handgun, according to police. The weapon was taken from the student after staff at the school learned they were showing it to classmates. The gun wasn't loaded, according to police. Police said there weren't any threats made against the Winslow Township staff or students. The incident is under investigation.

Portable damaged at Kitchener school
Police are looking for the person or people responsible for damage to a school portable in Kitchener. Waterloo Regional Police were first told about the damage on Thomas Slee Drive on Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. Groh Public School is the only school on Thomas Slee Drive. They said the portable window appeared to have been have been hit by a projectile, possibly from a BB gun. Investigators believe it happened between 11 p.m. on Monday and 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Anyone with more information is asked to contact police.
