Volunteers help pupils at school through reading programme
A volunteer-led learning support initiative is helping pupils at a Bournemouth school.
The 'Reading Partners' and 'Number Partners' programmes, run by JPMorganChase, see 18 volunteers from the company's Bournemouth campus visit King's Park Academy on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The volunteers help pupils with their reading, literacy skills, mathematical calculations and problem-solving.
The scheme was paused during the pandemic but returned last June.
This year, 20 Year 4 pupils have been selected to take part.

Volunteers support pupils with reading and maths in Bournemouth (Image: Authentic Education) Sarah Campbell, reading champion and librarian at King's Park Academy, said: "Some of our younger pupils may be less proficient or less confident, and having the Reading and Number Partners in during our lunchtimes gives them the chance to practise their skills in reading or maths in a fun way with no pressure.
"We've seen all the pupils involved grow in confidence and it's been lovely to watch them interact with their volunteers."
Dan Sheen, of JPMorganChase, said: "We all enjoy working with the young people and it's great to be able to give something back to the community.
"We've been able to provide some resources – books and number games – which the children love."
