Hawaii scores 10 in Big West Tournament 1st round win
The Big West Conference got the softball conference tournament underway on Wednesday with (5) Hawaii facing off against (4) Long Beach State.
Long Beach State took a 1-0 lead after the 1st, but Hawaii's bats came alive in the 3rd inning as the Rainbow Wahine scored 3 runs with help from a 2-run homer from Chloe Borges and a solo shot from Izabella Martinez.
But the Beach retook the lead with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 3rd, but Hawaii's bats not slowing down as UH scored 4 runs in the 4th inning and another 3 in the 5th.
Hawaii held off LBSU late push as UH wins 10-8 to advance to the 2nd round.
The Rainbow Wahine finished with 11 hits on the day to LBSU 10 hits. Martinez led the way with 4-for-5, 4 RBIs, 1 2b and 1 HR.
Carys Murakami and Chloe Borges also add 2 hits and 3 RBIs each in the Hawaii win.
(5) Hawaii will take on (1) Cal State Fullerton on Thursday at 11:00am HT.
The Rainbow Wahine won the regular season series 2-1.
