Kansas City area restaurants confident on meeting demand for Super Bowl Sunday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chiefs Kingdom anticipates a delicious day on Sunday. Kansas City area restaurants are bracing for heavy demand, as fans plan their Super Bowl menus. One metro diner manager describes the days leading up to the game as 'the calm before the storm.' Cash registers are sure to ring at Joe's KC Barbecue's popular location on W. 47th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Managers are prepared to be slammed with orders, as Chiefs fans get their orders placed for Super Bowl Sunday. The popular barbecue joint is usually closed on Sunday, but an exception will be made for Super Bowl weekend. Eric Tadda, a member of Joe's management team, said staff members expect to be 10 times busier than a normal weekend. Brookdale OP residents issue friendly challenge to Eagles fans 'We make Sunday our own holiday, but when the Chiefs are involved, it takes it up another notch,' Tadda said. 'You can order anytime now until Sunday up until four o'clock. Now, spaces are going to fill up. Each location has 60 to 100 orders already placed.' Burgers will be in demand at BRGR in Prairie Village, Kansas. This kitchen's staff also have Sunday pre-orders already awaiting them. BRGR's Mikita Watson said the restaurant is staffing extra employees to assist with takeout orders. Watson and Tadda both encourage customers not to wait in placing orders for Sunday. 'It's crazy busy,' Watson said. The demand is crazy. The staffing demands, the food demands. We want to make sure we have enough product. We want to make sure we don't run out of your favorite item.' Grocery stores are busy, too. The Hy-Vee store deli in Shawnee, Kansas is producing as many trays, chicken wings, pizza and sweets as it can to satisfy hungry crowds. Store director Karla Quandt said food preparation pros have built skill in recent years. They've had a lot of practice with the Chiefs playing in three straight Super Bowls. Kansas City mayor talks future funding, Super Bowl trip to New Orleans 'When we knew we were going to the big game last week, it just became another routine for us. We know what we need to do, and we know the plan behind it. We're using a few more employees to get it done,' Quandt said. Quandt says her deli will have a lot of chicken wings available.
