Cryptocurrency Outperformance Reflects Market's Bullish Risk Appetites

Recession odds have declined, and crypto stocks are soaring. Here are 2 picks to watch right now. This story originally appeared on WallStreetZen The stock market has been on a relentless rise since bottoming in early April as tariff fears reached a crescendo. Since then, the administration has backed off its extreme stance and chosen a more moderate approach. Already, recession odds have drastically declined, and the market seems willing to look past near-term disruptions that could result due to tariffs. This explains the stock market's V-shaped bounce. Cryptocurrency Outperformance Interestingly, cryptocurrencies are one one of the strongest parts of the market in this post-tariff period. Even during the decline, the sector demonstrated relative strength. While most assets made lower lows, between late-March and early-April, bitcoin formed a double-bottom. And, it continues to lead on the upside, as it currently flirts with all-time highs, while broader markets remain firmly below their all-time highs. Given the inherent risk of the sector, this behavior during a period of risk-aversion in financial markets is certainly noteworthy. In fact, this type of relative strength into and out of market bottoms is often an indication of institutional accumulation and a harbinger of future outperformance. Recent examples include AI stocks out of the market bottom at the end of 2022 and tech stocks in March 2020. In both instances, the bullish price action and early leadership out of market bottoms was an indication of favorable fundamental developments and marked the beginning of multiyear bull markets. Secular and Cyclical Drivers Certainly, crypto's bullish technicals are also supported by positive long-term fundamental developments, coupled with cyclical catalysts. In this cycle, crypto has proven itself to be an effective 'store-of-value' against inflation. Additionally, it benefits from current fiscal dynamics where developed economies are dealing with rising deficits and soaring rates which is also the fuel behind gold's recent strength. In terms of longer-term catalysts, traditional financial institutions continue to increase exposure to the sector from an investment and operations perspective. Further, the increasing number of ETFs means that the asset class opens up to a much wider audience of potential investors including financial advisors. 2 Stocks to Consider Investors seeking exposure to this crypto boom can consider stocks like Bitcoin Depot (BTM) and BGC Group (BGC). Both stocks are rated a Strong Buy (A) by the Zen Ratings. A-rated stocks have posted average annual performance of 32.5% which handily beats the S&P 500's average annual gain of 10.8%. Notably, BGC is up by more than 33% since its low on April 7, while the more speculative BTM is up by more than 150% since early-April. BCG is also part of the Zen Investor portfolio. Each stock in the Zen Investor portfolio is hand-picked by 40+ year market veteran Steve Reitmeister, who uses a rigorous 4-step screening process to locate the highest-potential stocks. Florida man loses $38K to fake loan scam after bogus computer alert set up by cryptocurrency thieves

John Klingel lost $38,000, and it all started when he saw a pop-up on his computer. He told WPTV 5 in West Palm Beach that because the message appeared to be from a cybersecurity company he normally does business with, he was more apt to believe that it was real. Thanks to Jeff Bezos, you can now become a landlord for as little as $100 — and no, you don't have to deal with tenants or fix freezers. Here's how I'm 49 years old and have nothing saved for retirement — what should I do? Don't panic. Here are 5 of the easiest ways you can catch up (and fast) Nervous about the stock market in 2025? Find out how you can access this $1B private real estate fund (with as little as $10) The thieves then called him and said that someone had taken out a loan in his name to use for gambling and that he could get his name back in good standing by depositing at a Bitcoin Teller Machine (BTM). 'It's a bitter pill to swallow,' Klingel told reporters. Here's how the scam unfolded and how you can spot the signs of fraud. What happened to Klingel isn't an isolated incident. Jim Shackelford, a Palm Beach County detective, said that because cyber criminals have become so good at exploiting emotions, more people are falling prey to similar scams. Many may know just enough information about you to lure you in, as with Klingel. Klingel told reporters that scammers try to pressure you once you get on the phone. "They tell you to put your money here, scan this QR code here," he says. 'You never hear from them [afterwards.]' Klingel warned that anybody calling who doesn't know you and wants money is out to scam you. He added that he believes the thieves knew about his relationship with his cybersecurity company due to a possible security breach. Read more: You're probably already overpaying for this 1 'must-have' expense — and thanks to Trump's tariffs, your monthly bill could soar even higher. Here's how 2 minutes can protect your wallet right now As of 2024, there was a network of 2,938 Bitcoin Teller Machines in Florida, with around 30 in the West Palm Beach area alone. The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office (PBSO) claims there are 187 BTMs in the area and 784 in its southern neighbor, Miami, as of April 2025. BTM operators claim to offer a more accessible and streamlined way for someone to purchase and sell Bitcoin, but it may also be a place where scams are happening. And if you send money through Bitcoin, it may be hard to trace it or get it back. That's because the very nature of Bitcoin is meant to ensure a level of anonymity, which could explain why scammers tend to prefer this type of currency. In some cases, you may be able to get your money back if you report it to the authorities early, but the chances are slim. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. To avoid becoming a victim of a cybercrime, slow down and resist any pressure to make a decision quickly. Ignore any pop-ups you see on your computer, even if they look to be from a legitimate source. If someone contacts you claiming to be from a financial institution, government or another similar entity demanding payment in cryptocurrency, hang up. None of these organizations will make this request. Look up the phone number of the company in question and confirm the identity of the person that contacted you, or that you don't owe any money. For example, if someone from a utility company is asking for payment, call the number found on your bill statement to confirm that you're not required to pay. As cyber thieves become more sophisticated, you may fall victim to a scam. There is no shame in that, and you can take steps to try to recover your stolen money. You can report the crime to your local police department or file a report with the FBI through the Internet Crime Complaint Center. Be sure to include the transaction hash and the cyberthief's wallet address. Filing a complaint through your state's attorney general's office is also a smart idea. The Massachusetts attorney general's office says to avoid hiring third-party cryptocurrency tracing companies to try to get your money back. Many of these may be scammers themselves, using your personal information for their own gain. Even if not, the tracing company may charge high upfront fees and trace your money using questionable means, or not be able to do anything for you at all. Want an extra $1,300,000 when you retire? Is Penguin International Limited's (SGX:BTM) Latest Stock Performance A Reflection Of Its Financial Health?

Penguin International's (SGX:BTM) stock is up by a considerable 7.3% over the past week. Given the company's impressive performance, we decided to study its financial indicators more closely as a company's financial health over the long-term usually dictates market outcomes. In this article, we decided to focus on Penguin International's ROE. Return on equity or ROE is a key measure used to assess how efficiently a company's management is utilizing the company's capital. In simpler terms, it measures the profitability of a company in relation to shareholder's equity. Trump has pledged to "unleash" American oil and gas and these 15 US stocks have developments that are poised to benefit. The formula for return on equity is: Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity So, based on the above formula, the ROE for Penguin International is: 15% = S$36m ÷ S$243m (Based on the trailing twelve months to December 2024). The 'return' is the amount earned after tax over the last twelve months. So, this means that for every SGD1 of its shareholder's investments, the company generates a profit of SGD0.15. See our latest analysis for Penguin International So far, we've learned that ROE is a measure of a company's profitability. Based on how much of its profits the company chooses to reinvest or "retain", we are then able to evaluate a company's future ability to generate profits. Assuming all else is equal, companies that have both a higher return on equity and higher profit retention are usually the ones that have a higher growth rate when compared to companies that don't have the same features. To start with, Penguin International's ROE looks acceptable. On comparing with the average industry ROE of 3.9% the company's ROE looks pretty remarkable. This certainly adds some context to Penguin International's decent 8.3% net income growth seen over the past five years. As a next step, we compared Penguin International's net income growth with the industry and found that the company has a similar growth figure when compared with the industry average growth rate of 9.9% in the same period. Earnings growth is a huge factor in stock valuation. What investors need to determine next is if the expected earnings growth, or the lack of it, is already built into the share price. Doing so will help them establish if the stock's future looks promising or ominous. Has the market priced in the future outlook for BTM? You can find out in our latest intrinsic value infographic research report Penguin International has a healthy combination of a moderate three-year median payout ratio of 44% (or a retention ratio of 56%) and a respectable amount of growth in earnings as we saw above, meaning that the company has been making efficient use of its profits. Moreover, Penguin International is determined to keep sharing its profits with shareholders which we infer from its long history of paying a dividend for at least ten years. On the whole, we feel that Penguin International's performance has been quite good. Specifically, we like that the company is reinvesting a huge chunk of its profits at a high rate of return. This of course has caused the company to see substantial growth in its earnings. If the company continues to grow its earnings the way it has, that could have a positive impact on its share price given how earnings per share influence long-term share prices. Remember, the price of a stock is also dependent on the perceived risk. Therefore investors must keep themselves informed about the risks involved before investing in any company. Popular church will curb tourist crowds by creating separate 'selfie space'

Many travelers to Barcelona, Spain, may find themselves at one of the most beautiful sacred places in the world: the Sagrada Familia. The basilica is the largest unfinished Catholic church, attracting not just worshippers but tourists from all over. Sagrada Familia attracts so many tourists that the city of Barcelona is now building a specific area just for visitors to snap photos. In an action plan put together by the Barcelona Tourism Management (BTM), officials state, "The area around the Sagrada Familia was not designed for the intensive use it currently experiences." The public spaces in that area, the plan said, have reached a "saturation point." Officials say that "work needs to be done to improve this space in the following areas of intervention: urban landscape, tourist attraction points, public space model and disruptions or transformations resulting from urban developments." One of the tourist attraction points is an area dedicated to picture taking in a large plaza on the Placa Gaudi facing the front of the church. The plaza will alleviate congested sidewalks and leave room in front of local businesses that were previously blocked by tourists. The church was designed by Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi beginning in 1882. It attracted 4.7 million visitors in 2023, according to BTM. "A new design of the square would allow a [physical link] with Avinguda de Gaudí to encourage flows toward the Sant Pau Modernist complex," the action plan says. The annual volume of visitors to the basilica and its surrounding area is estimated to be between 18 and 22 million people, according to BTM.
