The shocking incident happened on Saturday, May 31 Cours Jean-Jaurés in Grenoble, France when the driver of a BMW 1 Series, who was speeding along the central tramway tracks, heading towards Echirolles. The BWN driver then attempted to make a U-turn using the handbrake at the intersection of Avenue Alsace-Lorraine. ‌ He then mowed down four pedestrians: two 17-year-old men and two women, aged 23 and 46, all four people were members of the same family. The driver reportedly abandoned his car and fled the scene, fearing he would be attacked by the crowd. According to local media he surrendered a few minutes later, he was detaind by police officers who immediately took him into custody. ‌ Around 30 firefighters and a team from the emergency medical services (SAMU 38) were dispatched to the scene to assist the victims. The two women and one of the teenagers were critically injured, while the other teenager appeared to be less seriously injured. All were treated and taken to the Grenoble Alpes University Hospital for further treatment. Grenoble police officers had to secure their intervention as hostile groups threw stones and bottles in their direction.
