Hemant Soren government should take steps to stop conversion if they are concerned about tribals: LoP Marandi

RANCHI: Amid the ongoing protest by the JMM and Congress demanding a Sarna Religion Code, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi said that if these parties are truly concerned, they should take concrete steps to stop the conversion of tribals to Christianity. According to Marandi, if all tribals who believe in Marang Buru or worship nature are converted to Christianity, then who will write 'Sarna' in the separate column of the census form. Notably, tribal leaders across Jharkhand have been demanding the implementation of a Sarna Code in census surveys to identify tribals as followers of the Sarna faith. Marandi said religious conversion has become a major challenge in Jharkhand, which is why the previous Raghuvar Das-led BJP government had brought in a bill to curb it. Addressing the media at the BJP headquarters in Ranchi, Marandi cited the 2011 caste census, claiming that 15.48% of the tribal population in Jharkhand had converted to Christianity. He added that nearly 26% of Oraon, around 33% of Munda, over 67% of Kharia, more than 2% of Ho, and about 1% of Santhal populations had adopted Christianity. 'Why doesn't the government explain how lakhs of tribals who traditionally followed the Sarna religion have now been converted to Christianity?' he asked. Marandi said that in 2011, Jharkhand's total population was 3.29 crore, of which 86.45 lakh (26.2%) were tribals. 'Out of these, nearly 14 lakh (around 15%) identified themselves as Christians. The question is, how did so many tribals shift from their original Sarna faith to Christianity, and why is this trend continuing?" he said. He added that the upcoming caste census would reveal the actual figures of tribal conversion, and warned, 'When all tribals will become Christians, then where will Sarna survive?'

BJP stages protests, wants Pakistanis to leave India

1 2 Ranchi/ Bokaro/ Hazaribag: The Jharkhand unit of the BJP on Monday held rallies across all district headquarters, demanding immediate action against Pakistani nationals who have not left the country despite the expiry of the 48-hour deadline issued by the Central govt, after the Pahalgam terror attack. Party workers marched to the offices of district commissioners, submitting memorandums and urging authorities to enforce the directive. The rallies were marked by slogans calling for strict implementation of the order and the deportation of the Pakistani nationals residing in India. Taking part in a rally in Ranchi, BJP state president Babulal Marandi said, "Pakistan-sponsored terrorism will no longer be tolerated. There is no place on this sacred land of ours for any citizen of Pakistan who supports terror. They must pack up and leave. The terrorists who are making calculated attacks on India's faith, culture, and integrity will be given a response so strong that they cannot even imagine it." Former CM and BJP leader Raghubar Das also participated in the rally in Jamshedpur and submitted memorandum to district commissioner demanding immediate deportation of Pakistani nationals in the city. "I urge the state govt to strictly implement this decision in accordance with the directives issued by the Central govt. Jharkhand has become a safe haven for illegal immigrants, be it Bangladeshis or Pakistanis. The state govt should work with the Centre to deport those illegal foreigners," Das said. The protests come amid heightened political discourse around national security and illegal immigration. BJP leaders have accused opposition parties of being soft on the issue and demanded that state governments take immediate steps in coordination with the Centre. Former MLA Biranchi Narayan alleged that Bangladeshi nationals have illegally settled on Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) land by constructing makeshift homes and obtaining fake Aadhaar cards. "The district administration should thoroughly investigate and ensure that such infiltrators are identified and removed from the city," said Narayan. On May 3, the BSL administration launched an anti-encroachment drive near Bokaro Niwas in Sector-5 during which illegally built slums on BSL land were removed. During this drive, illegal settlement of suspected 'Bangladeshi' citizens came to light. Deputy general manager (security) of BSL, Colonel Rajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the activities of these people living without valid documents are a matter of concern from the security point of view. In Hazaribag, too, BJP workers, led by district president Vivekanand Singh, demonstrated in front of district collectorate in Hazaribag city demanding action against Pakistani citizens residing in the district. A letter in this regard was also handed over to deputy commissioner Nancy Sahay for it to be forwarded to Governor Santosh Gangwar and chief minister Hemant Soren. Barhi MLA Manoj Kumar Yadav was also present in this demonstration. Singh said the brutal killing of 26 innocent civilians by terrorists in Pahalgam on April.22 has shocked the entire nation. After this incident, the central govt has taken a very important decision to cancel the visas of Pakistani citizens and deport them from the country. He urged the district administration to identify Pakistani nationals in Hazaribag who are living without valid documents.

Marandi criticises Cong over ‘Samvidhan Bachao Yatra'

Ranchi: The leader of the opposition in the assembly Babulal Marandi on Sunday criticised Congress over the party's " Samvidhan Bachao Yatra " scheduled to take place in the city on Tuesday. Senior Congress leaders, including All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge and party general secretary K C Venugopal, are expected to attend the yatra. Marandi criticised Congress claiming that the party has attacked the dignity of the Constitution and democracy to such an extent that it would be recorded as a dark chapter in the country's history. "Congress altered the very spirit of the Constitution just to stay in power and made every possible attempt to kill democracy. During its 60 years of rule, Congress amended the Constitution 79 times — only for appeasement and power. The first constitutional amendment was the first attack on freedom of expression, carried out by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru so that action could be taken against those who criticised the govt. This amendment curtailed Article 19(1) (a) and limited press freedom," Marandi claimed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play this game for 3 minutes, if you own a mouse Undo The BJP leader also said Congress amended the Constitution 25 times between 1966 and 1977 and criticised former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for interfering with the judiciary in 1973. "Gandhi, on April 25, 1973, bypassed the three most senior judges and appointed Justice A N Ray as the Chief Justice of India. This decision was an attempt to pressure the judiciary by promoting a judge," he claimed. Marandi further said it was a matter of shame that the party which has compromised with the Constitution time and again would be organizing a rally to "save" the Constitution. Referring to Congress's protests held across the country in front of ED offices, Marandi said the party members threatened officials of the central agency, established through provisions of the Constitution. "Leaders of Congress and JMM openly made statements suggesting that the Sharia law is above the Constitution. This directly questioned the supremacy of the Constitution. The violent protests against the Waqf Act and Congress's support of them are clear examples of this. In the Jharkhand DGP appointment controversy, too, political interference overrode the Constitution in administrative appointments of the state," the BJP state president added.

Bangladeshi infiltrators rapidly settling in Jharkhand: Babulal Marandi

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Babulal Marandi raised concerns on Saturday over the alleged infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into Jharkhand. Marandi claimed that 3,000 Muslim children in Chakulia, East Singhbhum, were being issued Aadhaar cards, despite there being no Muslim families in the area. Taking to the social media platform X, Marandi wrote in Hindi, "Bangladeshi infiltrators are now rapidly settling outside Santhal Pargana in Kolhan as well. In the village of Chakulia in East Singhbhum district, where no Muslim family lives, the making of Aadhar cards for 3,000 Muslim children is a serious threat to the internal security of Jharkhand." Marandi also criticised the state government for allegedly shielding infiltrators and hindering investigations, warning that such actions could compromise the state's security and cultural integrity. "Information has come to light many times that illegal documents are prepared for infiltrators by giving them shelter in mosques and madrasas. Despite this, the Hemant government goes to the Supreme Court to stop the investigation of Bangladeshi infiltration. In the greed of vote bank and power, JMM-Congress has made Jharkhand sit on a powder keg. Bharatiya Janata Party will continue its decisive fight against infiltration to protect the culture and traditions of Jharkhand so that Jharkhand can be saved from a situation like Malda, Murshidabad," he added in his post. Earlier today, in a massive crackdown across Gujarat led to the detention of over 550 illegal Bangladesh immigrants in Ahmedabad and Surat. Gujarat police officials said that these individuals were residing in India with forged documents. Deportation proceedings will follow after verification and interrogation. The coordinated operations were led by multiple law enforcement units, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), Crime Branch, Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB), and local police teams. Officials said that all detained individuals were in India without valid documentation and had used fake papers to establish residence.
