Ella May Ding responds to pregnancy announcement backlash
A former reality television star has responded to backlash after she turned her pregnancy announcement into a sponsored post. Ella May Ding, who appeared on season 9 of the hit dating show 'Married At First Sight' in 2022, took to Instagram last week to reveal she was expecting her first child with husband Guy Palermo. The images featured the couple wearing all white, and cradling the 30-year-old's tummy with a Clearblue pregnancy test on display — and a note confirming it was an ad. But what should have been a heartfelt moment between the reality star and her fans turned into a debate as some argued it felt 'off' to cash in on a pregnancy announcement. But, more than a week after the announcement, Ms Ding has responded to the backlash. 'It was a no-brainer. When the opportunity came to me, I was like, 'Well, Clearblue literally told me I'm pregnant'. Like, I don't really know how much more you can align with a brand,' she told Yahoo Lifestyle. 'The response I was like, 'That's a bit weird', but at the same time, it made sense to me, and that's like anything that I do, promote or talk about. If it makes sense to me and my people understand, that's all that matters. And if you got offered, you would take it!' She added that having a baby was an expensive feat, particularly with the cost-of-living crisis. Ms Ding posted the announcement last week, with the caption: 'Somewhere between healing and hustling, the next chapter quietly chose us. Baby Palermo you've already made our story sweeter & given us the best news of 2025 yet.' It was signed off with: '#ad #ClearblueConfirmed. Always read the label and follow the directions for use.' One social media user said: 'Nooo this feels off being an ad. Is this the official announcement? Congratulations either way.' And another criticised: 'Wow making money of (sic) the baby already? How desperate are you for cash? I hope you wont be exploiting this baby for content when its born. It's a child not content.' 'I thought this was so odd,' another said. One commented: 'Beautiful news. Just weird how it's a clearblue ad lol.' 'Making money off an unborn baby feels weird to me idk,' one social media user commented. Another said: 'This chick will do anything for money lol.' Ms Ding is certainly not the first influencer or celebrity to do this. Summer House star Lindsay Hubbard announced her pregnancy in a very similar way with the same brand. Fellow US stars such as Daniella Monet and Tamera Mowry have done the same.

Married At First Sight star Ella Ding has announced she's pregnant with her first child. The former reality TV star, 31, took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to announce the exciting news. In a series of photos, Ella posed alongside her husband Guy Palermo, who she married last year, while displaying her small baby bump and a positive Clearblue pregnancy test. Another snap showed several Polaroids of her showing off her bump, plus a selfie with Guy and a sonogram image of their baby on the way. Shortly after her wedding, Ella revealed she was planning on having kids. 'I'm not in any rush to have children, that's about it really. I don't really know' she said in a video. 'Ideally I would like to say I would like to have kids in a year and a half to two years but I don't know how long that could take.' Ella and Guy shocked fans when they said 'I do' in a surprise wedding ceremony back in April 2024. The former MAFS star took to Instagram to confirm they had exchanged vows, just weeks after announcing their engagement. She announced that she and Guy wed in a secret ceremony ahead of their reception at The Prahran Arcade's Sophia venue in Melbourne. After keeping their nuptials secret, the newlyweds then surprised their friends with their marriage news at Ella's 30th Great Gatsby themed birthday party that evening. In an epic twist, they revealed the news in a sweet video played at the party, showing Ella footage of as a child, before clips from their wedding played. Their friends were left completely shocked and broke down in tears upon learning of the happy news, as the birthday bash turned into a surprise wedding reception. Revealing the big surprise publicly, Ella and her friends shared an array of photographs from the special day to their respective Instagram pages. Ella gave an insight into her and Guy's romantic wedding vows as they were shown gushing over their love for one another in a tear-jerking video. Ella declared to him: 'I believe every experience we've been through in life has prepared us to be ready for each other now. 'Guy you are my best friend and I love you so much. Thank you for choosing me and what I come with, quirks and all, I can't wait to do the rest of my life with you.' While Guy said: 'You are the single most beautiful person in the world to me every single day, you're my best friend my confidant and my life partner and I'll always feel blessed to have you by my side and I love you.' Ella's pregnancy announcement comes less than two months after her former best friend Domenica Calarco announced she was expecting her first child.
