Local picks: Best San Antonio bars and restaurants for Final Four weekend
Final Four buzz has officially taken over San Antonio, and it's hard not to get swept up in the frenzy.
State of play: Downtown's heating up with concerts, free events and wall-to-wall basketball energy. Amid all the fun, you're bound to get hungry.
San Antonio's had a glow-up since the 2018 Final Four — so whether you're plotting your own weekend or playing tour guide, here are some food and drink recs to keep in your back pocket.
Madalyn's picks:
Backroom Bar: This sophisticated-yet-welcoming spot, tucked inside Queso Pan y Vino, strikes the perfect balance of ambiance and energy. Try a carajillo or paloma (each $15).
Luna Rosa: A can't-miss Puerto Rican spot with a food menu full of winners. The drinks are just as solid. It's my go-to for pre-Fiesta and First Friday hangs, and it's bound to be a hit for Final Four weekend, too.
Atlee's Rally: New on the scene but a natural fit for the St. Paul Square lineup. With a lively setup and a friendly vibe just steps from the Alamodome, this sports bar will likely serve as an ambassador for visitors getting to know the city.
Need a pick-me-up? Across the street, you'll find El Tigre (coffee and quick bites) and Cuishe (Tex-Mex), to fuel your day or night.
Megan's picks:
Liberty Bar: This pink, converted convent in the heart of Southtown has everything you need to fuel a great weekend — bar snacks, filling meals and playful cocktails.
I always love the salmon encilantrado ($28) for dinner and the fried chickpeas ($6) for snacking.
The Cherrity Bar: Just a stone's throw away from the Alamodome, this indoor-outdoor spot has great ramen and small bites, like the fried mushrooms with spicy mayo ($8.50).
Check out the sake menu or opt for a classic cocktail.
