90s 'Madchester' legend back on stage in Bolton as headline star of ball
One of Manchester's most iconic stars will be back on stage in Bolton to ensure everyone has a ball. Bez, of Happy Mondays fame, and a 90s 'Madchester' legend will be taking visitors back to the decade for the 'Bucket Hats and Ballgowns' ball at the annual Backup North West charity ball. The event will be held in the 1887 suite at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and it's sponsored by PCG, Product Care Group. It will take place on Friday, June 20, and tickets include a drinks reception, two course meal and entertainment from the man himself. They can be picked up now – with a standard ticket costing £100 and a VIP ticket costing £125. Tickets can be bought from their website here ( Maura Jackson, CEO of the Backup North West said: "Bucket hats and Ballgowns is the Backup charity ball not to be missed headlined by Bez of Happy Mondays and more, fame or infamy? "The event will be an evening of fabulous food, entertainment and music to take you back to that amazing era of iconic Manchester music of the early 90s and beyond. Tickets are on sale now." The night will raise much needed funds to prevent homeless and rough sleeping among young people across Bolton. Every year the charity organisers a glittering ball. Have a story? Get in touch at Backup, formerly Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme, was set up in 1992 in partnership with Bolton Council and Irwell Valley Housing with one house in Daubhill. The charity operates a number of houses where young people aged 16-25 can stay if they are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Their supported accommodation includes emergency housing, temporary accommodation, short and medium stay supported housing. Young people can live in more than one of their services to make progress and develop more independence before moving on completely. They have different services to meet different levels and ranges of needs.

New bands prove to be a hit at this year's Bolt Stock
A rock gig held for charity in Bolton earlier this month went down a storm. Bolt Stock took place on, at The Roundhouse on Kenton Close in Halliwell. The charity gig, which is in its third year, is a showcase for young, independently formed, original bands who give their time and effort freely. This year, it supported Bolton-based Backup North West, which helps homeless young people to be safe, stable and develop skills for independence. Bolt Stock raised a whopping £1080 for the local charity. Bolt Stock 2025 (Image: Henry Lisowski) Hosted by Bolton FM's Rachel Darne, who promotes fresh new musical talent on her show, the event featured talented, young, independent local bands from the North West, playing their own brand of indie and rock-based music. The Lakes, F3INT, The Velvetines and Radio Addicts, billed as aspirational, young, powerful bands performed on the night. Claire Hand, fundraising and events coordinator at Backup North West, said: 'I attended Bolt Stock which was an incredible event that showcased four local bands. All bands were fantastic. "All proceeds from the ticket sales and raffle on the night were donated to Backup North West and a whopping £1080 was raised. "I want to thank the organisers of the event, Pete and Natalie. Thank you so much for organising, and thank you to the wonderful bands." Local freelance photographer, Henry Lisowski, headed down on the night and took plenty of stunning pictures of the action, showing off the bands and the crowd. Walshaw man swaps stag do for 170-mile charity bike ride for BackUp North West
Scott Cunningham, 47, will cycle from Morecambe to Bridlington next month to raise funds for Bolton's Backup North West, a homeless charity supporting 16-25 year olds where his fiancé works as a Fundraising Co-ordinator. (Image: Claire Bullock) A man from Walshaw is riding more than 170 miles to raise money for a Bolton charity for his stag do. Scott Cunningham, 47, will be riding from Morecambe to Bridlington next month alongside his best man and long-time friend to raise money for homeless charity, BackUp North West. He is due to marry his fiancée of five years, Claire Bullock, 46, in July. Claire works as a co-ordinator for the award-winning BackUp charity based in Bolton. Claire and Scott have been together for five years. (Image: Claire Bullock) Speaking to The Bolton News, Scott said: 'Ultimately, the bike ride will be my stag do! ADVERTISEMENT 'I didn't want to go for the traditional weekend abroad, I knew I wanted to do something different. "My friend suggested riding to Bridlington and I thought it was a great idea." The ambitious journey follows the "Way of the Roses" route, spanning approximately 172 miles, which Scott plans to complete in three days starting Friday, May 23. He will be accompanied by his best man Gordon Hamilton and long-time friend Neil Wood. "It fit so well together, that's how the idea happened. ADVERTISEMENT 'We've been training, we're reasonably fit. We rode from Rhyl to Llandudno and back the other week. "We're not regular bikers, but we both used to go a lot of running and got into triathlons." 'I'm not particularly nervous, we've done a couple of events like this before. 'He's done lots of running, so I know he'll absolutely smash this challenge. The fact that he's raising money for BackUp means so much to me. 'I know he'll be absolutely amazing.'
