Sudirman Cup 2025: Satwik-Chirag ruled out as India suffer big blow ahead
The Indian contingent suffered a big blow ahead of the start of the Sudiman Cup 2025 as men's doubles pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are ruled out the tournament due to sickness. The Badminton Association Of India made the statement via a story from the official Instagram account ahead of the tournament, which will start on April 27 and go on until May were expected to spearhead India's charge in the men's doubles event. They had last competed at the All England Championships, where the duo exited in the second round. Chirag sustained a back injury during the second-round match in Birmingham, and ultimately resulted in the Indian duo's premature and unfortunate exit from the tournament. The young pairing of Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi were named as backups for Satwik-Chirag and it is expected that they will now take the place of the star duo. However, BAI are yet to make an official announcement regarding the same. India are also without the services of the dependable women's doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, who are recovering from shoulder injuries. India qualified for the tournament on the back of their world ranking but they have been handed a tough group, alongside Indonesia, Denmark and Sen and PV Sindhu will be leading the charge in the men's and women's singles events respectively for the Indian contingent. India are yet to make it to the semi-finals of the Sudirman Cup.
