Saudi Orchestra To Perform At Sydney Opera House In May

The Saudi Music Commission will host the Saudi Orchestra Masterpieces concert at the iconic Sydney Opera House on Monday, May 12. The concert will be under the patronage of Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Music Commission Prince Badr bin Farhan. The Saudi National Orchestra and Choir will perform musical pieces that highlight the richness and diversity of Saudi Arabia's cultural and musical heritage. The concert will also feature a collaboration with Australia's Metropolitan Orchestra, presenting Australian compositions and a special joint performance blending Saudi and Australian musical traditions. The Theater and Performing Arts Commission will contribute with live performances as part of the event. Sydney marks the seventh stop in the Saudi National Orchestra and Choir's world tour, organized by the Music Commission. Previous performances were held at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the National Theatre in Mexico City, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Central Hall Westminster in London, Tokyo Opera City, and King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh. The concerts have received wide acclaim locally and internationally, reflecting the growing global presence of Saudi music. Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — Prince Badr bin Farhan, Minister of Culture, met with Jorge Rodriguez Vives, Minister of Culture and Youth of Costa Rica, on Thursday in Jeddah. At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Culture welcomed his Costa Rican counterpart to Saudi Arabia, wishing him a pleasant stay, and praising the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries. The meeting addressed the importance of enhancing international cultural exchange between Saudi Araba and Costa Rica in various cultural fields, most notably museums, theater and performing arts, music, visual arts, and culinary arts, as well as disseminating cultural knowledge between the two countries. The meeting also discussed cooperation between the two friendly countries on cultural matters within international organizations. Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture for International Cultural Relations,Eng. Fahd Al-Kanaan, and Costa Rica's non-resident Ambassador to Saudi Araba Francisco Hernandez attended the meeting.

Saudi, Greek ministers co-chair inaugural meeting of Strategic Culture Committee

Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Farhan and his Hellenic counterpart Dr. Lina Mendoni chaired the first meeting of the Culture Committee of the Saudi-Hellenic Strategic Partnership Council. Prince Badr stressed that this meeting would strengthen international cultural exchange between the two friendly countries, to the benefit of both countries and their generous peoples. During the meeting, the heads of the Culture Committee emphasized the importance of strengthening Saudi-Hellenic cultural cooperation and activating the memorandum of understanding in the field of culture signed in July 2022. They praised the ongoing cooperation between the two friendly countries, embodied in the Hellenic side's participation in the second edition of the Saudi International Crafts Week (Bannan), held in Riyadh during November 2024, in addition to the participation of the Greek Benaki Museum in the 2025 Islamic Arts Biennale, held in Jeddah Governorate during the period from January to May 2025. Both ministers commended the organization of the 'Saudi Cultural Week in Greece,' held last year at the Zappeion Hall in Athens, featuring a special pavilion for the 'Year of the Camel 2024' initiative along with musical and theatrical performances, traditional crafts workshops, culinary arts pavilions, a calligraphy exhibition, a fashion show, Saudi film screenings, and other cultural showcases. OceanQuest launched in Saudi Arabia to lead global deep-sea exploration and marine innovation

Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — OceanQuest, a new Saudi Arabian not-for-profit foundation, was officially launched on Monday in Jeddah, with an ambitious mission to accelerate deep-ocean discovery, drive innovation, and foster global cooperation in ocean science. Aligned with the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the initiative aims to elevate public awareness and ocean literacy while supporting groundbreaking marine research through international partnerships. "As a nation rooted in progress and innovation, we are committed to unlocking the mysteries of the deep ocean for the benefit of humanity," said Prince Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Chairman of the OceanQuest Board of Trustees. "This initiative exemplifies our Kingdom's ambition to lead in science and discovery, foster global collaboration, and create opportunities for future generations." Headquartered at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, OceanQuest will play a pivotal role in advancing Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals by enabling sustainable marine development, supporting national RDI efforts, and promoting ocean conservation. The foundation plans to allocate SAR 3 billion to research and development by 2050, backing over 150 scientists annually. Its objectives include protecting 30% of Saudi Arabia's marine habitats, supporting biotech and pharmaceutical advancements, and leveraging deep-sea corals as natural carbon sinks to aid the Kingdom's decarbonization strategy. The Board of Trustees includes prominent figures such as Prince Badr bin Farhan, Chairman of the Board; Dr. Fahad Tounsi, Advisor to the Royal Court; Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of the Public Investment Fund; Abdulaziz Tarabzoni, Advisor to the Royal Court; Eng. Ayman Al-Mudaifer, CEO of NEOM; John Pagano, CEO of the Red Sea Global; Professor Edward Byrne, President of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology; and Raymond Thomas Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates and OceanX.
