Tamkeen, EDB launch Skills and Gender Parity Accelerator
The Bahrain Skills and Gender Parity Accelerator initiative – signed earlier this year at the World Economic Forum at Davos – held its kick-off meeting today with the World Economic Forum, public sector Co-chairs, and the appointed private sectors Co-Chairs. The Accelerator, coordinated by Skills Bahrain and led jointly by the Bahrain Economic Development Board, and the Labor Fund (Tamkeen) through its initiative Skills Bahrain which aims to equip Bahrainis with future-ready skills while advancing gender parity in economic participation. The meeting was attended by the public sector co-chairs - Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development, Chief Executive of Bahrain Economic Development Board and Her Excellency Maha Mofeez, Chief Executive of the Labour Fund, Tamkeen - along with the recently appointed private sector Co-Chairs: • Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Mumtalakat • Khalid Al Rumaihi, Chairman of Alba • Yaser Al Sharifi, Chairman of the Bahrain Association of Banks The meeting reviewed the Accelerator's strategic priorities and outlined key milestones. These include addressing critical skills gaps, enhancing gender parity, and strengthening Bahrain's competitiveness in high-growth sectors. The appointed private sector co-chairs will work closely alongside Tamkeen, Skills Bahrain and the Bahrain Economic Development Board to develop a national action plan that strengthens public-private collaboration at the heart of the Accelerator's mission. These industry leaders will help shape responsive future-oriented programs, including initiatives that expand opportunities for women across high-growth industries. 'As Bahrain remains committed to diversifying its economy and enhancing its global competitiveness, we take pride in our human capital, which remains one of our greatest strengths. While the Kingdom has made significant progress in STEM training and female empowerment, achieving gender parity remains a priority,' said Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, Minister of Sustainable Development, Chief Executive of Bahrain Economic Development Board, adding, 'The Bahrain Skills & Gender Parity Accelerator will enable us to drive further progress by increasing female participation and future-proofing our workforce. Through a data-driven approach and strong public-private partnerships, we aim to build a more resilient economic future.' Maha Mofeez, Chief Executive of Labour Fund (Tamkeen) said: 'Bahrain remains steadfast in its investment in its human capital. Our focus is on creating tangible impact—empowering local talent, increasing opportunities for women, and ensuring our workforce is equipped for the demands of a dynamic global economy.' Skills Bahrain is an initiative by Tamkeen and works in alignment with Tamkeen's strategic priorities, which focuses on enhancing the competitiveness of Bahrainis in the private sector, fostering enterprise growth, promoting digitization and sustainability, and advancing labor market and private sector development. With the Accelerator now moving into its implementation phase, Bahrain is taking concrete steps to bridge skill gaps and promote gender parity across the workforce. The execution phase of the accelerator is expected to be completed by 2026.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Chairs Weekly Cabinet Meeting
Manama: His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, today chaired the weekly Cabinet Meeting at Gudaibiya Palace. The Cabinet affirmed the importance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's visit to the French Republic, where HM the King met with His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron. The visit highlighted the enduring strength of Bahrain-France relations across the economic, political, and defence sectors. In this regard, the Cabinet underscored the strategic partnership and mutual commitment to enhance ties to meet shared aspirations. According to Bahrain News Agency, the Cabinet praised Bahrain's delegation, led by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for its impactful participation in the WEF 55th Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The Cabinet also commended the Kingdom's participation in bilateral meetings, roundtable discussions, and high-level strategy sessions, showcasing Bahrain's initiatives in economic diversification, sustainability, and innovation. In this regard, the Cabinet welcomed the signing of the 'Bahrain Skills and Gender Parity Accelerator' agreement between the Labour Fund (Tamkeen) and the World Economic Forum. The Cabinet then discussed several memorandums during the meeting, approving key initiatives. These included a memorandum from the Minister of Interior on the removal of certain entities and individuals from the list of terrorist entities, along with granting the Italian Republic sovereignty over its citizens' data stored in Bahrain. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was approved between Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Slovenia's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on political consultations. Other approved memorandums included a timeline for implementing an internal railway network and its integration into the GCC railway network, a legislative plan for 2025, and the inclusion of the Italian Republic as a partner for Bahrain's sea-air freight services. The Cabinet also responded to proposals and a law submitted by the Council of Representatives. Finally, the Cabinet reviewed a memorandum on government performance developments within the 'Sijilat,' 'Tawasul,' and 'Binayat' platforms, aimed at enhancing service quality and efficiency for citizens and supporting commercial and investment activities in Bahrain.

The Cabinet then discussed several memorandums during the meeting, approving the following: 1. A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Interior regarding the removal of certain entities and individuals from the list of terrorist entities. 2. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding granting the Italian Republic the right of sovereignty over the data of its citizens stored in cloud computing centres in the Kingdom of Bahrain. 3. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia on political consultations. 4. A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications on the timeline for implementing the internal railway network and its integration into the GCC railway network. 5. A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Legal Affairs regarding the Kingdom of Bahrain's legislative plan for 2025. 6. A memorandum submitted by the Minister of Industry and Commerce regarding the inclusion of the Italian Republic as a partner for the Kingdom's sea-air freight services. The list includes 20 participating countries, whose companies may apply for accreditation as operators for these services. 7. A memorandum submitted by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs on the government's response to three proposals and a law submitted by the Council of Representatives. The Cabinet then reviewed a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs regarding government performance developments within the 'Sijilat', 'Tawasul' and 'Binayat' platforms between January to December 2024, compared to the previous year. The platforms aim to enhance service quality and efficiency for citizens and support commercial and investment activities in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
