Italy Seeks Talks With Azerbaijani Group on Troubled Steelmaker
National steelmaker Acciaierie d'Italia, formerly known as Ilva, is set to start exclusive talks with an Azerbaijani consortium for the sale of its assets in bid to increase production from current low levels.
The offer of a consortium formed by Baku Steel Co. CJSC and Azerbaijan Investment Co. OJSC was considered the best by the steel producer's commissioners, and led Acciaierie d'Italia to ask the government for a formal green light to start exclusive talks, according to a statement on Thursday. Terms were not disclosed.
