Madurai district goes up by two ranks from last year's 16th rank in Class XII exam results
In an evident improvement, Madurai district has gone up by two ranks from last year's 16th place in the State in Class XII State Board examination results, which were announced by the School Education Department on Thursday.
The district with a pass percentage of 95.75 stood 14th at the State-level performance table. While it slipped from the 15th rank in 2023 to the 16th rank in 2024, it had gained its lost position this time, said School Education Department officials.
Of the 324 schools in the district, including government, government-aided and private, 117 schools achieved 100% pass. While 33,742 students (16,187 boys and 17,555 girls) took the examination, 32,304 students (15,171 boys and 17,133 girls) cleared it.
Girls secured a pass percentage of 97.60, outperforming boys who recorded 93.72.
Eight of the 111 government schools in the district recorded cent percent pass. Of the 10,526 students of government schools (4,248 boys and 6,278 girls) who took the examination, 9,680 students (3,683 boys and 5,997 girls) cleared it, securing a pass percentage of 91.96%.
While Madurai educational district recorded a pass percentage of 95.95, Melur educational district's score on the count was 95.56%, both contributing to the overall pass percentage of 95.74.
Adi Dravidar Welfare Department schools achieved 92.47% pass; fully aided schools managed 95.90%, Kallar Reclamation schools 94.91%, partly aided schools 97.70%, government schools 91.35%, self-financing matriculation schools 99.12% and self-finance schools 96.35%.
It is to be noted that Madurai district was ranked fifth in the State with a pass percentage of 96.89 in 2022.
Corporation Schools
Scoring 99.33% pass, Navalar Somasundara Bharatiyar Corporation School in Madurai stood on the top among the 15 schools run by the civic body.
The officials said 2,092 students of Corporation schools passed in the exam, taking the total pass percentage to 92.54 from 91.78 recorded last year.
Two students of CEOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Balayogi and Dinesh Karthik, scored 596 marks. A total of 93 students have scored full marks and in Maths alone 26 students scored full marks.
Chairman of CEOA Group of Institutions M. Raja Climax felicitated the top scorers and centum scorers.
