Almatti dam engineer dies of cardiac arrest
Vijayapura: Sharanappa Chalavadi, 57, an assistant executive engineer of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited (KBJNL), who was involved in the maintenance of Almatti dam for over two decades, died here on Tuesday after a cardiac arrest.

He joined KBJNL as a junior engineer 30 years ago and played a crucial role in furnishing technical data to the advocates representing Karnataka in the Krishna Water Tribunal and in the supreme court. He maintained dam water from 2002 to 2020 and later was posted in the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) division of KBJNL in Almatti. He was deputed in Delhi whenever the tribunal or supreme court conducted trials on the Krishna River water dispute and supported the advocates' team with all statistics.
He was an expert in water storage, flood management, dam management, and other issues pertaining to the reservoir. He was honoured with the Balekundri award by the state govt.
His last rites were performed in his native Muttagi village near Almatti.
