Suspicious death of a woman in Sherbrooke: investigation transferred to the provincial police

This photo of a Sûreté du Québec (SQ) vehicle was taken in Montreal on July 22, 2020. (The Canadian Press/Paul Chiasson) An investigation into a suspicious death in Sherbrooke has been transferred to the provincial police's (SQ) Crimes Against Persons Investigation Unit. The case may involve domestic violence, which the SQ investigation will have to confirm. 'At this point, all possibilities are on the table. We won't stop at just one hypothesis, but it is one of the hypotheses,' said Sergeant Hugues Beaulieu, spokesperson for the SQ, in an interview. An emergency call on Sunday at around 2 a.m. led police to a residence on Ball Street, where two people were injured. 'Witnesses contacted emergency services about an individual who was injured outside the residence. At the scene, responders assisted a 38-year-old man who was seriously injured, and while securing the area, police discovered a 32-year-old woman who was also seriously injured. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries,' said Sergeant Beaulieu. The man's life was still in danger when he was taken to hospital shortly before 9 a.m. on Sunday. The nature of the injuries sustained by the two individuals could not be disclosed immediately so as not to compromise the ongoing investigation. A large security perimeter was established in the area to protect the scene, and SQ investigators were still on site Sunday morning, along with a dog handler and a forensic technician. The investigation is ongoing. This report by The Canadian Press was first published in French June 13, 2025.
