Sale report: €5.81/kg paid for 315kg bullocks at Ballinrobe
Ballinrobe Mart in Co. Mayo hosted its weekly general cattle sale on Wednesday, April 30, with as high as €5.81/kg paid for bullocks.
Heifers prices peaked at €4.85/kg and cows topped out at at €3.97/kg, with the weanling bulls reaching €4.00/kg and suck calves making up to €420/head.
Mart manager Teresa Gibsey said: 'The heavy bullocks over 500kg averaged €4.26/kg or €2,691/head, which was up 23c/kg on the previous week.
'400-500kg bullocks averaged €4.24/kg or €1,840/head, up 21c/kg or €110/head on average.'
300-400kg bullocks averaged €4.61/kg or €1,595/head, which was 'a huge price increase on the previous week,' according to the mart manager.
Some of the top bullock prices from the sale at the mart venue were as follows:
750kg Charolais bullock sold for €3,000 or €4.00/kg;
600kg Limousin bullock sold for €2,860 or €4.77/kg;
465kg Limousin bullock sold for €2,100 or €4.52/kg;
410kg Limousin bullock sold for €2,050 or €5.00/kg
360kg Simmental bullock sold for €1,930 or €5.36/kg
315kg Charolais bullock sold for €1,830 or €5.81/kg.
Heifers in the sale achieved prices from €860-2,380/head or €2.61-4.85/kg. The heavy heifers weighing over 500kg averaged €4.06/kg or €2,130/head, which was an increase of 15c/kg on the previous week.
Heifers weighing from 400-500kg averaged €3.69/kg or €1,616/head, while 300-400kg heifers averaged €3.68/kg or €1,285/head.
Some of the top heifer prices from the sale included:
550kg Angus heifer sold for €2,380 or €4.33/kg;
500kg Angus heifer sold for €2,080 or €4.16/kg;
480kg Angus heifer sold for €2,000 or €4.17/kg;
470kg Charolais heifer sold for €1,990 or €4.23/kg;
355kg Charolais heifer sold for €1,520 or €4.28/kg;
235kg Limousin heifer sold for €1,14 or €4.85/kg.
Dry cows ranged from €720-€3,120/head, making an average price of €1,700/head or €2.81/kg.
Topping the dry cow trade was a 785kg Limousin selling for €3,120 or €3.97/kg.
There was a lively calf trade at the sale also, with up to €420 paid for a 55kg Belgian Blue bull calf with the average calf price settling at €295.
Ballinrobe Mart sheep trade
Ballinrobe Mart hosted its weekly sheep sale on Thursday, May 2, with a nice selection of spring lambs with prices ranging from €175-€203/head, averaging €185/head.
Hoggets ranged from €87-211/head or €2.68-4.22/kg, averaging €3.62/kg.
Cull ewe prices ranged from €90-266/head, averaging €185/head, and price per kg ranging from €1.52-3.02/kg, with an average of €2.51/kg.
Ewes with lambs at foot sold from €155-360 for a ewe with twin lambs.
