Muslim group meets guv to seek action against Balmukundacharya

1 2 Jaipur: A delegation of Muslim Progressive Federation (MPF) Monday met governor Haribhau Bagde and urged him to direct CM Bhajan Lal Sharma to take action against BJP's Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukundacharya for inciting communal violence in Jaipur's walled city. The delegation, led by MPF convenor Abdul Salam Johar, met Bagde at Raj Bhavan and apprised him of the sequence of events that unfolded at the Jama Masjid in Johari Bazaar on the night of April 25. The delegation sought the governor's intervention in expediting action on the FIR registered against Balmukundacharya at Manak Chowk police station on April 26. It also demanded swift and stringent action against all those involved in the incident. "The governor, who is the custodian of the Constitution in the state, listened attentively to our concerns. He reviewed our memorandum and assured us that he would discuss the matter with the chief minister and ensure appropriate action is taken," Johar said. The memorandum states that the MLA, along with his supporters, attempted to enter Jama Masjid while Friday evening prayers were underway, and raised slogans.

BJP rebukes MLA for provoking unrest

Raj BJP chief reprimands MLA over raising slogans in mosque JAIPUR: Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore reprimanded Sunday party MLA and Hathoj Dham mahant (head priest) Balmukundacharya after he and his supporters raised slogans and stuck posters inside Jaipur's Jama Masjid before Friday prayers, triggering tensions in the city's walled area. "Those who deliberately provoke unrest have no place in BJP. Such acts are a betrayal of our principles and will be dealt with strictly," Rathore said, adding that he had instructed all party members to uphold communal harmony and warned against actions damaging public trust. Tensions escalated after Jaipur's Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukundacharya and his supporters stepped onto the first stair of the mosque on April 25. A large gathering of Muslims formed soon after, leading to unrest. An FIR was filed against Balmukundacharya at a Jaipur police station on charges of disrupting religious peace. Protests intensified Saturday when police lathi-charged demonstrators demanding the MLA's arrest. Rathore said Balmukundacharya had apologised and clarified his position. "I instructed him to prioritise peace and public sentiment," Rathore said, stressing that BJP "respects all religions and their places of worship" and advising against politicising the matter. "Good governance cannot thrive without unity. We reminded our representatives that promoting peace and harmony is their foremost duty," he said, while urging Congress MLAs Rafeek Khan and Amin Kagzi to work for calm. Adarsh Nagar MLA Khan welcomed Rathore's action. "I welcome your call to reprimand him for actions that undermine the dignity of a public representative," he said, stressing that all elected representatives must work to maintain peace and harmony.

Jaipur: Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore Sunday reprimanded Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukundacharya, making it clear that any action threatening communal harmony will not be tolerated within the party. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Rathore's remarks follow Balmukundacharya 's controversial act of sticking posters and raising slogans ahead of the Friday prayers inside the Jama Masjid premises on April 25, which sparked tensions inside the walled city area. "Those who deliberately provoke unrest have no place in BJP. Such acts are a betrayal of our principles and will be dealt with strictly. I instructed all party leaders and workers to uphold communal harmony and strictly avoid any behaviour that could damage the BJP's commitment to unity and public trust," Rathore said. Rathore added that he instructed Balmukundacharya to prioritise peace and public sentiment. "He apologised and clarified his position immediately," he said. Asserting that BJP "respects all religions and their places of worship", Rathore advised against politicising the incident. "Good governance cannot thrive without unity. We reminded our representatives that promoting peace and harmony is their foremost duty," he said, advising local MLAs Rafeek Khan and Amin Kagzi, both from Congress, to not play up the incident but work for peace. The controversy erupted on April 25 when Balmukundacharya, along with his supporters, raised slogans and stepped onto the first stair of Jaipur's Jama Masjid during the Friday prayers. The act, seen as an intrusion during a sensitive time when prayers were being offered, led to tension in the area. A large number of Muslims gathered following the incident, leading to an atmosphere of unease. An FIR was registered against Balmukundacharya at the Jaipur police station based on complaints of disrupting religious peace. The situation further escalated Saturday when Jaipur Police resorted to cane charging a group of protestors who demanded the arrest of the BJP MLA. The heavy-handed police action drew sharp criticism from various quarters.

FIR against BJP MLA for 'provocative' rant outside Rajasthan mosque

JAIPUR: Jaipur's walled city area has been tense since Friday night over the alleged provocative sloganeering by BJP MLA Balmukundacharya and his supporters near Jama Masjid, while protesting against the Pahalgam massacre, reports Nitesh Kumar. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police lodged an FIR against the MLA on Friday night following a complaint lodged by the other side, but demands for his arrest have been raised. The confrontation started after Balmukundacharya, along with about 60-70 supporters, allegedly raised inflammatory slogans outside Jama Masjid in Johari Bazaar during the namaz. The MLA and his supporters were subsequently booked on charges of hurting religious sentiments, attempting to incite violence and being part of an unlawful assembly. The mosque management committee Saturday released CCTV footage, in which the MLA and his supporters are seen approaching the mosque stairs, pasting posters at its base of the stairs, stamping on them, and then raising anti-Pakistan slogans. Balmukundacharya said: "We pasted posters at public places, including temples, but we did not enter any mosque." Asserting his "right to raise slogans against Pakistan," the BJP legislator said he was sorry if his sloganeering had hurt sentiments. However, the MLA's actions sparked widespread protests on Friday, which continued on Saturday.
