School students to be involved in palm seeds collection
Collector V. Mohanachandran has said that school children in the district would be involved in the exercise of palm seeds collection.
Disclosing this at an awareness rally held at Moonar River Head near Needamangalam on June 8, the Collector presented a brief note on the usage of palm products, including palm leaves used to record verses and statements, in the past.
Calling upon the people to extend their support in preservation of palm trees for posterity, he said that efforts would be initiated to involve school children in the process of collection of palm seeds and subsequent planting of them.
He flagged off an awareness rally, Bamani Aatril Panaipayanam, organised by Green Needa organisation in association with National Service Scheme volunteers of various higher education institutions in Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts, affiliated with Bharathidasan University, Tiruchi.
The awareness rally passed through 30 hamlets covering around 60 km between the Moonar River Head and Muthupettai.
