Rourkela: Over 1,000 Odias living in Dubai and neighbouring countries took part in the Utkal Divas celebrations organised by the Odisha Samaj, UAE, last week.
The celebrations, in its 15th year, and held at JSS Private School, Al Safa, began with a rendition of 'Bande Utkal Janani', followed by cultural performances. Young performers presented Odissi dance, while the 'Bahania' troupe from Sambalpur showcased folk traditions. A fashion show featuring models in pattachitra saris was another highlight. The programme also included a tribute performance honouring Odia superstar Uttam Mohanty, who passed away two months ago.
The festivities concluded with a traditional Odia feast featuring delicacies such as 'dahi bara', 'dalma', 'alu potal', 'dahi baigan' and 'khiri'.
