Nahayan hails ‘another glorious chapter' as UAE stun Bangladesh to make history
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, led the plaudits after the UAE Men's cricket team stunned Bangladesh in a memorable 2-1 series victory, calling it 'another glorious chapter in our cricketing history.' The series, played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, saw UAE bounce back after losing the opening match to defeat their more experienced opponents in the final two games. The decider on Wednesday night was won convincingly, as Haider Ali's spectacular 3 for 7 derailed the Bangladesh innings before Alishan Sharafu (68 not out) and Asif Khan (41 not out) sealed the chase with a composed, unbeaten 87-run stand. 'The Emirates Cricket Board is delighted with the outstanding performance of the UAE Men's team in the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh,' Sheikh Nahayan said. 'The team played brilliantly in the whole series while the support staff put in the hard yards to make the victory possible. 'I want to congratulate the entire squad and wish them the very best in their upcoming international assignments. The ECB will continue to provide the best possible facilities and exposure to our immensely talented players. UAE continues to impress in the T20I format and the Bangladesh series win is another glorious chapter in our cricketing history. 'In the recent past, the team has defeated formidable Test playing opponents like Afghanistan and New Zealand. The series win will give immense confidence and self-belief to our players and make them take on bigger and more established opponents.' The win underscores UAE's rapid rise in international cricket, especially in the T20 format, where they are increasingly competing with — and beating — Full Member nations. With this victory, the team has reaffirmed their credentials and sent a strong message to future opponents.

Pakistan recalls fast bowler Hasan Ali for T20 series against Bangladesh
ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan has recalled fast bowler Hasan Ali for this month's Twenty20 home matches against Bangladesh but overlooked senior batters Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam for the third successive series. Hasan played just one T20 international in nearly three years when he returned with expensive figures of 0-42 in three overs against Ireland in Dublin in 2024. However, the right-arm fast bowler has forced his way back into the squad with a rich haul of 15 wickets in the Pakistan Super League while representing the Karachi Kings. Rizwan and Babar were dropped for the last two series in Zimbabwe and New Zealand as Pakistan continued to reshape its top-order ahead of next year's T20 World Cup. Rizwan scored 367 runs at a strike rate of 139.54 in the PSL this season as his franchise, the Multan Sultans, suffered nine defeats in 10 games. Babar's Peshawar Zalmi also missed out on the playoffs for the first time in PSL history as he finished the season with 288 runs and a strike rate of 128.57. Salman Ali Agha, who was appointed captain ahead of the T20 series in Australia last year, will continue to lead the side with Shadab Khan as his deputy. The series will be the first assignment for Pakistan's newly appointed white-ball coach Mike Hesson, who is currently in charge of Islamabad United in the PSL. The selectors have made eight changes to the squad which lost the series in New Zealand 4-1. Fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi, Jahandad Khan and Abbas Afridi were replaced by Hasan, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Wasim while another pace bowler Mohammad Ali was also dropped. Opening batter Sahibzada Farhan, who leads the PSL charts with 394 runs in 10 games, Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman were recalled, with all-rounders Faheem Ashraf and Hussain Talat also making their way back into the squad. The three-match series will be played in Lahore but the match dates are yet to be announced. ___ Squad: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim, Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub. ___ AP cricket:

Pakistan drop stars Shaheen, Azam and Rizwan for Bangladesh T20s
Pakistan dropped stars Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan on Wednesday as they named a new-look squad for three home Twenty20 internationals against Bangladesh. Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson will take charge for the first time after being appointed last week, replacing Aaqib Javed. Salman Ali Agha will captain Pakistan as they look towards next year's Twenty20 World Cup, to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Fast bowler Shaheen had played in Pakistan's last T20 series in New Zealand in March, but batsmen Azam and Rizwan were omitted for the second consecutive T20 series after being criticised for slow scoring. "The squad has been selected based on players' performances in the ongoing Pakistan Super League, which concludes on May 25," the Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement. Shaheen has taken 12 wickets for Lahore Qalandars in 10 PSL matches at an economy rate of 8.20. Opener Sahibzada Farhan earned a recall after topping the PSL batting charts with 394 runs. Batsmen Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman return after missing the New Zealand tour with injuries. Fast bowler Hasan Ali is back after being sidelined with multiple injuries since May last year. The PCB said that the series match schedule, which has been affected by a 10-day delay to the PSL caused by the deadly India-Pakistan conflict, will be announced soon with all three matches to be held in Lahore. Pakistan squad: Salman Ali Agha (captain), Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim, Mohammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub sh/dh

Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen miss out as Pakistan name 16-player squad for Bangladesh T20Is under new coach Hesson
Islamabad: Pakistan have unveiled a 16-player squad for their upcoming series, marking the beginning of Mike Hesson's tenure as head coach. This will be Hesson's first assignment since taking charge of the national team, according to the official website of ICC. A host of big names remain on the outer as Pakistan revealed their squad for their upcoming three-match T20I series at home against Bangladesh. Former skipper Babar Azam, veteran keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi are notable absentees from the 16-player group that will take on Bangladesh in three matches in Lahore. Babar's sharp decline in form has coincided with his repeated exits from captaincy. After stepping down as Pakistan's captain across all formats following the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, Shaheen Afridi took over the leadership. However, after just one series, Babar was reinstated as the white-ball captain ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Following the tournament, Babar stepped down once again, marking his second resignation within a year. Batter Salman Ali Agha will continue as skipper with all-rounder Shadab Khan his deputy, while experienced white-ball performers Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah are also included. But there is no room for Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen, with Pakistan declaring the selection of the squad was based upon performances during the ongoing Pakistan Super League season. The series will be the first in charge of new Pakistan coach Mike Hesson, with the schedule for the series to be announced in the coming days. Pakistan squad: Salman Ali Agha (c), Shadab Khan (vc), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub.
