Shannon Sharpe Responds To Nicki Minaj Mentioning Him On 'Banned From NO (Remix)'
Lil Wayne's Tha Carter VI made landfall earlier this month and has spawned several different headlines from its aftermath. The bonus version made waves thanks to a new verse from Nicki Minaj on 'Banned From NO,' where she called out figures like JAY-Z and Shannon Sharpe. The latter caught wind of the mention and issued a response addressing the entire situation. On the song, the Queens rapstress spit, ''Bout to cop you slides, all you do is flip-flop/ If I send a pic of Shannon, you ain't that Sharpe.' Sharpe got on the mic on the latest episode of Nightcap and cleared up the miscommunication that caused the diss. 'I was talking about Nikki Haley,' the retired NFL star explained, referencing a 'Nicki who?' tweet he posted in Feburary that was taken out of context. 'Nikki Haley said it's really great for everybody of Black America, and I was like … 'When has it ever been great?'' Minaj herself confirmed this was why she wasn't thrilled with Sharpe, as she tweeted after the song dropped: 'Yeah ni*a you thought I forgot that 'Nicki who' sh*t you did?' The ESPN commentator continued by addressing the Pinkprint 2 creator directly and making it clear he did not mean to shade her. 'Nicki, I was not trying to be disrespectful. Of course, I know who you are. I would be remiss to say that I thought you knew who I was, or that you knew anything about Club Shay Shay. I'm not that arrogant,' he said. 'Nicki, I apologize. I meant no disrespect. You'll always have an open invitation if you ever want to come sit down and have a conversation. Even if you just want to have a private conversation on the phone or something. It won't go any further between you and I.' Listen to Nicki's 'Banned From NO' verse below and Shannon's response above. On the same track, Nicki also took aim at the NFL and JAY-Z by rapping, 'NFL, fire some ni**as and then call us!' The line seemingly stems from the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, which included Lil Wayne voicing that he felt directly snubbed for not being chosen to perform. Hov's close affiliation with the sports league, specifically his direct involvement with the halftime show, is well-known, leading people to assume Nicki was taking a jab at her fellow New York legend. The Queens icon then dives head-first into her bristling verse, which finds her sniping at NFL player-turned-podcast host Shannon Sharpe, who has been critical of Minaj in the past. 'If I send a pic of Shannon you ain't that Sharpe/ Cause you still can't spell Prague and that's horrible,' she raps. Minaj then salutes a classic Wayne bar from the Pharrell-produced 'Yes.' 'Weezy F Baby and the F is for Phenomenal,' she mimics. Before leaving the burning booth, Nicki wasn't done and she sent a shot at the NFL about their choices for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which overlooked Wayne in his hometown earlier this year. 'NFL, fire some n—s and then call us,' she spews in defense of the Young Money boss. Nicki Minaj Flames Shannon Sharpe And Jay-Z On New 'Banned From NO' Remix
Source: Dia Dipasupil / Getty Nicki Minaj hops on the remix of Lil Wayne's track ' Banned From NO, ' a fan favorite from his ' Tha Carter VI ' album. While the queen wasn't on the original version, she's now back with some hard-hitting bars, and a few surprising shots at some well-known names. One line that's getting a lot of attention is aimed at sports commentator Shannon Sharpe. Nicki raps, ''Bout to cop you slides, all you do is flip-flop, if I send a pic of Shannon, you ain't that Sharpe.' Many fans were confused at first, wondering why she would call him out. But Nicki later explained that years ago, Sharpe tweeted 'Nicki who?' in a shady way. She clearly didn't forget, and now she's firing back in a verse. She even joked that she almost threw a shot at Chad Ochocinco too, since he's often on shows with Sharpe, but decided not to. Nicki also took a subtle jab at Jay-Z and the NFL. This year's Super Bowl was held in New Orleans, Lil Wayne's hometown, and many fans were upset that he wasn't picked to perform at halftime. Instead, the NFL chose Kendrick Lamar. Nicki called it out in her lyrics, saying, *'NFL, fire some n*ggas and then call us,' hinting that the league only works with Black artists when it benefits them. She didn't mention Jay-Z by name, but since he helps run the NFL's entertainment deals, many believe the line was allegedly directed at him. Whether she's defending Lil Wayne or settling old scores, Nicki proves once again that she's not afraid to speak her mind, and still knows how to grab everyone's attention. Take a look at some of the funniest reactions from the Barbz to Nicki Minaj sounding off on Shannon Sharpe and Jay-Z below. Nicki Minaj disses Shannon Sharpe on ‘Made In NO' remix
The post Nicki Minaj disses Shannon Sharpe on 'Made In NO' remix appeared first on ClutchPoints. Nicki Minaj's remix of Lil Wayne's 'Banned From NO' from his Carter VI album featured some interesting lyrics addressing Shannon Sharpe. Sharpe has been a permanent fixture in the news for the past few months and it's clear that Minaj has been paying attention as she said, 'If I send a pic of Shannon, you ain't that sharp.' Minaj took to her X account after the song was released to bring even more attention to the diss, playfully trolling both Sharpe and his Nightcap co-host Chad Ochocinco, saying: 'If I send a pic of Shannon, you ain't that sharp!!!! Yeah ****** you thought I forgot that 'Nicki who' *** you did? 🤣😩🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO j/k 😐 Ochocinco almost caught a strizzy just by being around yo crazy tail self 🤣😩🤣😩🤣 #BannedFromNORemix' While Shannon Sharpe has been ubiquitous for his viral interviews and his sports take, he has been embroiled in controversy as he was hit with a $50 million sexual assault lawsuit in April. The 13-page lawsuit was filed by a 'Jane Doe' in Nevada, alleging Sharpe had committed assault, sexual assault, battery, and sexual battery, and that he engaged in the intentional infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit states that she and Sharpe started a relationship in 2023 after meeting at a gym in Los Angeles. She claims Sharpe relentlessly pursued her, repeatedly calling, texting, and 'demanding she come to his Beverly Glen mansion.' The relationship is described in the suit as abusive and controlling. The complaint alleges that Sharpe recorded their sexual activities, something without her knowledge, and that he was sharing the videos with others without her permission or knowledge. The suit also alleges that Sharpe threatened to kill her after she attempted to share her location on her iPhone with her friends. On April 24th, Sharpe stepped away from his ESPN duties while also defending his innocence. His statement read: 'My statement is found here and this is the truth. The relationship in question was 100% consensual. At this juncture I am electing to step aside temporarily from my ESPN duties. I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me. I plan to return to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason. I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming and ongoing support I have received from my family, fans, friends and colleagues. Shannon Sharpe' ESPN also released a statement about Sharpe's temporary departure from his role with the company, stating, 'This is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon's decision to step away.'
